Shinshinto Edo Period Katana Question

Thinking about purchasing this Katana.

 

Seller says Shinshinto Edo Period. I assume no signature since it's not mentioned, and it is 35 3/4" long, blade being 27".

 

 

What would be a fair price?

At first glance this looks like a nice sword; good mounts and apparently a nice blade. Do you have pictures of the nakago and if not why not? At the moment there is not enough information to make a call.  Not sure where you are but this would go for somewhere around £1500 and upward from a dealer in the UK.

 

You really need to see the nakago before you make a call.

Mike, all Shinshinto blades should be signed. There are exceptions, but none that I've seen.

That'd be a shame as I'm not really looking for a Showa era blade, despite it being a nice looking sword.

 

Anyone else confirm this?

Blade looks traditionally-made. The nakago-jiri is a bit different from a typical Kaga nakago. Nakago reminds me of Seiryuken Moritoshi. Not too uncommon to find mumei Shinshinto.

And just to add a rider to Ken's comment about shinshinto always being signed, I have a very nice katana by a shinshinto smith that is mumei but papered so it's not always the case.  

This still looks like a nice package to me.

 Very much what you would see as a remounted Shin-Shinto blade in Gunto mounts. Being unsigned it would have been less expensive, but still a decent traditional blade. Another example of such is discussed here.

A lot of blades are Mumei, and there is a lot of discussion as to why.  I have 10 Wakizashi and Katana, and only one of them, the Kaneyoshi Gendai is signed.
