Masayuki Mei Help

Hi Everyone,

 

I have a 'stamped' mei Masayuki but my question is, Did Masayuki also sign using a two character signature using the normal means (not stamped)

I put up these shots of my Masayuki which is a carved signature. The sword passed Hozon this year. Hope it helps.

The smith who stamped masayuki was the showa smith Ijima Ko. Kiyomaro did not stamp his mei. Pictures of the sword would help as well.

Joe is correct, Kiyomaro did not stamp and his 2 character signature is quite rare. Yamanashi also stamped and carved his mei.

I used to own a stamped (Iijima) Masayuki sword, and still own a signed (Iijima) Masayuki sword. Have seen a number of both. It seems that the stamped were average gunto, and the signed were always much larger, maybe custom order. I recall seeing a signed example a couple of years ago with a 34” nagasa. All seemed to have had a pierced tsuba, with the exception of Ray’s (S.) naval.

Apologies for the reply time delay, I had to go away and read a bit more.

 

I have finally got a picture of the Mei in question.

 

The blade is covered in something like Renaissance wax so details are just visible but impossible to capture with the camera.

 

Nagasa = 65cm

Hamon = gunome midare

Hada = I think Itame/masame

In Gunto mounts, Pieced tsuba and a sharks skin (I think) laquered saya with a leather saya cover.
