Hello Members :)

Some of my recent acquisitions...

I am not sure how old they are.

Please post on what you think, or, how you would tell the " Age  Era  Period "  that these Chawans  are from.

The "dirtiness" of the Bare Clay.. ?

The color of the clay?

The fineness  or coarseness of the Clay?

How much, if any, or, the mixture of the fine and course grains in the Clay?

The pattern of the Glazing at the bottom.

The shapes of the "Foots"..  :-?

" Lopsided  shapes, whimsical  designs..."

Here's something  to watch from  You Tube.

I think this is apart of  an old NHK Begin Japanology episode.

The Narrator is Mr. Stuart Varnam-Atkin  :

In general, the photo's are a little too small to say something definite. These bowls seems to be meiji period, or very late Edo (although without personal contact/analysis it'll be a guess). Going further back in time you'll notice (especially in oribe and shino chawan), that the koudai - or foot becomes rougher (with the obvious exceptions). The clay less fine and the fine details much rougher.

Here a koudai from a momoyama period dated chawan.

Also to describe this kind of shape, often times the term "kutsu" chawan is used, deformed shape.

Hello Guys, :)

Posted this Green Otribe Chawan for Viewing..

A bit different from the others..

I found  and was reading on several Oribe Sites that tell about Mino-yaki and Oribe ceramics.

I did not find anything about these light green type Chawans..

I have one other arriving soon.

Have anyone seen or know about these Variations of Green Oribes?

Thanks for viewing..

Alton :)

Hello Guys,

This Old Mino-yaki Dish was said to be from the mid Edo period.

I'd like to think it was damaged in a Battle.. :)

or, maybe it was excavated in the Castle Fire ruins?

Like the old saying..

"If they could talk "..   ( Or , something like that..)

I love that "Shino" style "Water Reed" Brush images.

So prominent  among Japanese Designs.

I don't know why, but, I love old things.

Do you guys like seeing what other old Items I got?

or, is this getting old? :(

  Thanks for viewing..

Alton

Kuro Oribe  ..  :)

Japan Edo Period.  Early 19th century or earlier...

(Papered ;-) )

Thank You Dieuwki,   :)

I got lots of Shino/Oribe items.

I started with Bisen ,  Kyo-yaki,

Then, my favorites, Kyomizu  and Raku..

Now, Oribe..

Along the way, I acquire old,  odds and ends..

Like this Seto  Vase...

What a great find.

To most, it must look like  :doubt:   and, I must be   ....

:rotfl:   But, keep looking at it..  ;-)

Thank you for viewing ...

Alton :)
