Medina San1 Posted January 27, 2018 Report Posted January 27, 2018 Good Morning to all. Some of you know me as Medina San. I have not posted in a while, so it's about time for me to do so. First this item is not for sale, it's for everyone to enjoy and learn. As that is what I want to do, so all comments and thoughts are welcome. This Wakizshi has an Orikaeshi-mae to Soshu Ju Masahiro its 22 inches long with Horimono of Bonji and So no kurikara. I do have more photos if needed. 2 Quote

Medina San1 Posted January 28, 2018 Author Report Posted January 28, 2018 Dan, what the heck is that second photo? Like Stephen said below it's the Mei folded over to show that it did not come from another sword. Quote
Medina San1 Posted January 28, 2018 Author Report Posted January 28, 2018 I also wanted to share the Photo that shows the Habaki. 2 Quote

Medina San1 Posted January 29, 2018 Author Report Posted January 29, 2018 Lovely and interesting sword Dan. I bet its a beauty in hand. Greg Yes it is, I've been spending hours on this one. trying to find info is hard even with plenty of books on hand and the world wide web. trying to pin down the generation. Dan 1 Quote
Surfson Posted January 29, 2018 Report Posted January 29, 2018 If you can't find it in the Koto Taikan or Zuikan, you might need the Soshu Taikan. It's a very big and expensive book and I'm not even sure it has all the generations. Quote
Medina San1 Posted February 1, 2018 Author Report Posted February 1, 2018 Anyone out there have any Masahiro oshigatas they could post? Thank you dan. Quote
Medina San1 Posted April 27, 2018 Author Report Posted April 27, 2018 Well the sword is at the Chicago Shinsa, really looking forward to see the results. Dan Quote
DRDave Posted April 27, 2018 Report Posted April 27, 2018 Dan, I'm excited for everyone that has submitted items to shinsa, and best wishes to all. Question for you and other members about orikaeshi mei. Most photos that I find show full or partial mekugi ana on the fold, similar to the two examples shown in this thread. And sometimes a mekugi ana is obscured by the fold but appears on the opposite side. Would you question an orikaeshi mei where there was no evidence of previous mekugi ana? Again, best wishes and congratulations in advance . Quote

Again, best wishes and congratulations in advance . I'm still a newbe at this even after many years. Always question why was it shortened, look for age and quality. But there are many more knowledgable experts on this forum that can give a better answer. As far as the shinsa my sword passed, it turns out to be a real Soshu Ju Masahiro. I'm all exited to see the work sheet. Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted May 5, 2018 Report Posted May 5, 2018 Congratulations, much to appreciate. Quote
Brian Posted May 6, 2018 Report Posted May 6, 2018 That is a phenomenal result! Well done Dan and congrats Quote
ROKUJURO Posted May 6, 2018 Report Posted May 6, 2018 ....Would you question an orikaeshi mei where there was no evidence of previous mekugi ana?.... That is mostly a technical question. It depends where the NAKAGO was cut. If the SURIAGE was done just above the MEI, then it is possible to have no MEKUGI-ANA ore remains of it. But not all swords are forged and signed in the same way, so there are tolerances in the position of the MEI. Quote
Medina San1 Posted May 12, 2018 Author Report Posted May 12, 2018 The results are in almost got a 77 lol. Time period is 1455-1457, about 560+ years old. Thanks to all for all the great comments. Dan 1 Quote
