Need Information

Hi RG. You should sign your posts with at least your first name as per board's rules :).

When asking info on a blade you have to post pics of the whole naked blade cause nakago (hilt) is as important as the blade for judgement and understanding.

with these pics IMHO your Tanto seems an assembled blade or a chinese fake.  At best a "Kamikaze dirk",,,

More knowledgeable people will chime in.

Welcome to the board, Here you'll learn a lot for your future aquisitions,

It's not unusual for the Chinese to make these fakes, Ryan, & you'll have to do some studying if you want to be able to recognize them. A good place to start is right on the NMB main page Under Research, Fake Swords, http://jssus.org/nkp/fake_japanese_swords.html.

Welcome to the forum.

Ken

Looks not very Japanese to me.

As Jean said the homon seems very regular, the chinese fake sword makers make some hamon with "Schablone & Schleifmaschine"

The Sayagaki is funny, yes.

Edit:

I take a second look and see something like a horimono? Could you sent better pics from the blade, the nakago without habaki and the horimono?
