Wakisashi found on swedish weapon-auction site!

"Rust removed on tang" = the blade is worthless!

The rust on the nakago of a blade is an essential part of the nihonto. You would never have a chance to go with a blade to a shinsa (for getting it papered by NTHK or NBTHK) if someone has removed the rust. So just forget this "occasion" :-)

Hello Roland,

it sure hurts its value but does not necessarily have to render it worthless. It can be repatinated. But unless it is a valueable sword it probably isn't worth the hassle.

Regards,

Max

i have repatinated nakago with great success and have had swords papered afterwards

i have also had gimei removed in Japan repatinated polished and had the sword papered

so a cleaned nakago does not make a sword worthless i bit cheaper yes

Thanks!

It really breaks my heart to see what ignorance can do to a blad!!

Why do anything...like that!?? If you dont know anything!! :steamed:

I´m traying to wait for my trip to Japan...next fall...but its difficult!;-)

Any input on the inscription!?
