Yes- mistreated.

A shame, as it is a nice little design.

 

In its current state, it isn't coming back on its own without a ----very---- long time of care.

For these mortally wounded ones, I'm okay with someone professional repatinating it. This one may not be worth the expense.

 

"Shoeblack" might be a better option. Lord knows some of the sellers from Yahoo!Japan use such tricks.

One of them is notorious for it.

Im not saying you should do this to your tsuba, or should it be done on higher end tsuba.

FF to 6:40 or so

This will bring the black back, be sure to oil asap coming out of last boiling water, dont forget to seal with wax.
