At least that what I think it reads. I have sen a few examples of the signature searching on google and finding past swords for sale. Probably the fist generation Saneyuki in the early 1600's but it has a sori more in line with the Koto Bungo Takada school and not the Shinto Bungo Sue Takada. The blade just came in tonight so I have to study it more to provide more details.

Dear Steve.

You have probably already looked at these but try this post, about three down for the full blade shot, http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/15304-shinto-wakizashi-in-red-gold-koshirae-nbthk-hozon/

And for your interest this one, http://www.nihontocraft.com/Three_Shinto_Cutters.html

I'm not sure I see anything that would make me think this was not the 1600's one.

Enjoy!

All the best.

Hi Steve,  I had a look at Bungo saneyuki IMHO, when you say an exact match for the 2nd saneyuki. the first has some  differences  the two generations of Saneyuki were active from 1615 - 1672 and if you look at the Nakago of the blade dated 1661 its seems that it would more likely be the second gen ? by the date but Steve.s link looks more like your Nakago its dated 1661 it may be the pic but the Nakago seems  a tad different for the first ? they must have worked at the same time
