Wood Joinery

Recommended Posts

There's a really good documentary about this, focusing on how the wooden constructions were really effective against earthquakes, and of-course focusing on that famous 5 story pagoda (sorry i can't recall the name of the pagoda or documentary right now). Not to mention its just gorgeous to see. Thanks for the link, those gifs really explain the incredible diverse sets of techniques.

Edit: to add: What was so interesting was that the joinery allows the building to move. When properly applied of-course, but in case of an earthquake certain sets of walls and support beams were allowed to slide slightly which allowed the whole structure to survive even the heavier quakes. There was an animation of the 'sliding' of the beams, that was quite good.
