Edo Or Muromachi?

Hello, i have found a possible piece to add to my collection. It's being sold as a Muromachi period blade, but the tang looks to good shaped(in my opinion)for a blade from that period. The patina is black.Could it maybe from the beggining of Edo? .The blade shape is quite ambigous.Any help is apreciated.

Cheers

Well,i actually want it for its historical value,so i wouldnt mind that fatal flaw as long as the blade is genuinely that old

The blade is most likely Shinto, & that is definitely a hagire - when you can see it from the full-length photo, it's a really bad one.

Forget historical value!   :steamed:  If you are going to collect Nihonto, buy only the best that you can afford, ALWAYS! Buying a piece of junk like this will do absolutely nothing for you to teach you about Japanese swords!

Start by buying reference books, as many as you can afford, so you'll know what's good & bad about a blade.
