Sandscript Translation help

I first thought this was Fudo Myo but now I'm not sure looks like too many strokes to be that. Sorry for the bad image.

I think at least one of the two is indeed Fudo Myoo… photo makes is a bit blurry and the quality of the engraving does not seem high, though.

 

And BTW it's Sanskrit, not "sand script." More specifically, it is Siddhaṃ.

The characters are known in Japan as Bonji which is Siddham script, a variation for want of a better word of Sanskrit.

I have read that Bonji inscriptions sometimes contain the first syllable of an invocation to a Warrior deity and the second represents the last syllable of that invocation.

 

Like a protective shorthand.

The cross cultural influnece on this piece is amazing.

 

The fact that the Sanskrit envokes the protection of the warrior is just cool in every regard. Great, Now I want one.

This thread certainly made me go through my books and look at the different types of Horimono. Just Neat-o.
