Kanemoto (兼基)

Is there any information on this smith? His blades are very good quality and they look too similar to Magoroku. A brother or the same smith?

Generally, the kanemoto line of smiths made similar swords. The generation is usually determined by how uniform the sanbonsugi Hamon is. Of course other traits assist in kantei as well.

Beware that the kanji "moto" mentionned in the topic is not the same as the one used by the famous one : 元

The small grain, prominent utsuri, and irregular hamon and boshi look identical to Magoroku. But the shape is not what I expect from Magoroku. Fujishiro lists him as a different smith.

You should buy Marius Sesko book, there a few information on these smiths, 2 koto, the second one is your guy. Perhaps someone can make a copy for you, I have only the e-version.

Thanks for the photos. It seems the identity of this smith is not completely settled. Ignoring that, the blades are still rare and excellent quality.

On the page you linked, a part says it could be either Magoroku, or his younger brother... maybe they just think if it's not him, it has to at least be another Kanemoto who worked with him closely in the time frame of the early 1500s...

 

Maybe this could be the one listed as the son of Kanesada...

 

Sorry, not son of Kanesada. This should be the one... although, it sounds like there is some questions about him...
