Outside my comfort zone with these- any opinions?

 

The fuchi/gashira and kojiri, made by the same artist (Toshimasa) look to be very late work...Anyone have any info on Toshimasa?

 

 

Tsuba by Akasaka Tadanori. Opinions?

That is 山東子 Santoshi Toshimasa. Tokyo late 19th century. John

Not of note perhaps, but, competent enough. High relief inlay his style, it seems. I have noticed that during this late stage silver seemed to become more popular as the base metal. John

The problem is there were a few late period artists that signed Toshimasa. Which one is this? Isokichi, Goto, Kitamura, Santoshi? John

I was one of those who thought that maybe his return would be of benefit to the members...that is until I happened to re-read an old thread last night that he had got involved with....it reminded me of why we are better off without him. Sorry Lee, he was just plain nasty and destructive. Brian did the board a favour getting rid of him.

Below's a link to another example with the same theme signed Tadanori Tetsugendo.com, I can't make out the kanji on the tsuba though, maybe you can contact Mike Yamasaki for a clearer image of the mei on his tsuba? It's listed as having Hozon papers so it could make for a good comparison.

Your tsuba does look to be later, maybe late Edo,

 

Hayne's index has 2 Akasaka Tadanori, maybe your's is the 2nd? (pics below)
