Gunto -Tsuba

A friend of mine has asked me to post this Gunto Tsuba from a sword he has just acquired.

 

Any info on the stamps please.

The ones upside down on the left read Tokyo.

Yes hard to read and even harder upside down, but the two on the "left" are I think Wakatsuki.

Name of a gunto shop owned by Wakatsuki Kan? There was a Wakatsuki gunto manufacturer in Shinbashi in Tokyo from about 1920. (Dai Nihon Token Shoko Meikan 1942 p.267)

The hot stamp　"Wakase" means "Wakase(family name) sword shop" in Tokyo, and this shop also made gunto-mounts in WWII period.

My mei book had the same kanji as you have here, but has the saying as Wakatsuki.

若瀬(wakase) is never pronounced as Wakatsuki.

Could you please show me the mei-book?

Hi Kiyoshi sama,

I use the book by O'Neil "Japanese Names" index p.333 (see pic).

This book does not give Wakase as areading for these Kanji....strange. Maybe I need a more modern book?
