Hi Guys,

After lurking around here for quite some while, I recently decided to register. Compared to most around here I still have lots to learn, but I've come to the right place I think. A few weeks ago I started a conversation with someone that had inhereted a gendaito from his grandfather. After I asked him to remove the tsuka, it appeared to be an antique nihonto in some nice gendaito fittings.

I've already spended some time trying to figure out what the Kin mei means, but am unable to do so. Some parts of the characters are missing as can be seen in the picture. Maybe any of you guys can help me?

The blade has been shortened, has three holes in the nakago and has some serious rust damage near the kissaski.

Thank you all very much for all the info. Here's a (not so good) picture of the blade. The damage is a little bit visable and it is supposed to be severe, but I haven't seen it in real life. And ???Civilis??, maybe this link explains a little: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaius_Julius_Civilis

Sorry but the signature wasn't visible in my earlier post, did add it though before I posted....
