  2. Hi everyone, I have another katana and saya with kanji I need translated... I'm pretty sure the saya says 'Kanefusa' but I can't work out the two on the pommel. Any help appreciated! Sarah
  3. Dear All I have a katana that I am trying to translate all of the kanji. It is tachi mei and on the tachi-omote side it has 肥前国住吉次 Hizen Kuni ju Yoshitsugu This seems to be a Hizen smith from the early 1600’s. On the tachi-ura side there are about 36 kanji. Looks to be from the WWII period. Here is what I have so far and at the Chicago show I had some help that is also listed. Any help in finding the correct kanji and translation would be great. 5. Hi all Thanks in advance for your assistance. I have a Kozuka with a kibata mei and need some help with the translation. Interestingly, I have found an exact of this Kozuka with a mei for mainline goto. Mitsutaka? Waki goto? Thanks. Ian C.
  6. Has 10 marked on habaki. Very curious on this one. Story goes this has sat behind a door for 80 or so years. Maybe a WW2 bring back. This is my first post so any guidance would be greatly appreciated. I am here to learn. I am currently looking/saving for my first Nihonto! thanks in advance Regards, Silverback.
  7. Some help on this KANBUN, YOSHIKUNI sword would be appreciated. And identification of the actual swordsmith would be a bonus, thanks in advance.
  8. I hope someone can help me. I read Sadaroku. On the nakago is a star stamp and a number. The nakago looks very clean. I din't find out if Sadaroku was a swordsmith of yasukuni shrine, so is this blade traditionell made? What does the signature mean. Pictures are a little big. The blade looks lovely for me. The koshirae is not very eye catching.
  9. Hello, I’m hoping someone might be able to tell me some information about this tanto. My grandfather brought it back from Korea, (with written permission), during WWII. He never spoke about it but it was passed on to my father when his father died. Neither of us know anything about it. I removed the tsuka to check for an inscription, but unfortunately I don’t see anything. Just the writing on the end of the tsuka itself. Can anyone translate that? Also, one of the small gold-colored pieces has four lines scratched into it. What could that signify? Any information you could provide would be helpful, thanks!
  10. While searching for information of traditional blade manufacturing methods I came across this diagram. There are some interesting blade sections shown, but the captions stump me. I would be grateful if someone here could help. Are these the names of the smiths known to use these, or are they descriptive of the steels used. Picture is original size as downloaded, I looked at enlarging it but the definition broke up a little.

  13. Hey guys, Got a friend here who sent me some pictures of a wakizashi he acquired and I thought I'd share them here. The mei gives me an off vibe, despite being unable to read it, it looks too fresh and awkwardly written. Maybe I am wrong there, so I thought I'd ask! For him, I'd like to find out: Translation Gimei or shoshin Approximate era/school Is the horimono a recent addition or period correct? Thanks guys!
  14. Hello, I recently acquired a Sukemori blade, could you please read me what is written on the certificate? thank you very much in advance, I am attaching pictures of the blade for your viewing pleasure.
  15. Hello to everyone, This is my first post on subjects other than Japanese swords and I am really devoid of knowledge about this kind of art. So: Here is a bronze tiger statue I have, I bought it years ago. I was told it is called a "double patina" statue and It is from meiji era. It is also "signed", I have already seen this signature on other statues but also, as I am not Japanese speaker, I can't find anything on google. It measures 45,5 cm (17,71654 inches) from the tail to the head and 20,5 cm (7,874016 inches) of heigt (from the front paw to the nose) I would love if you guys tell me what's the real value of this and would really appreciate to know some history about the maker and this type of statue. I am sorry if it is not the right category to talk about this. Thank you really much Carl
  16. Dear all I have recently acquired a NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Yoshiro Zogan tsuba signed, as per NBTHK paper, "Hiroshima Ju Ginza Chosuke". According to the seller the signature is "Hiroshima Ju GINYA Chosuke". I was not able to find any reference or information about the "Ginza Chosuke", but some about the "Ginya Chosuke" on the Kinko Jiten by Wakamatsu Homatsu. A rough translation of it is (please pitch in if you have a better one): Chosuke Living in Nagasaki, Japan. Named Ginya Chosuke, carved in brass flat inlay on a round iron base in Yoshiro Zogan style. Early Edo period. So this "Ginya Chosuke" seems to be spot on for the tsuba. style However I would like to hear your opinion about the NBTHK and seller attribution. If any of you have information about "Ginza Chosuke" or additional information about "Ginya Chosuke" that you care to share I would be grateful. Best Regards Luca
  17. So my grandpa had this katana that he gave to me a few years ago after I found it when helping him clean. It was "stored" under a pile of carpets for god knows how long and is in pretty rough shape. I would like to know if anyone could help with the translation. Thanks. https://imgur.com/yN24D7K https://imgur.com/9iigSvG
  18. hi everyone, I'm a new member from Italy! I bought a beautiful shin gunto at an auction, but the signature makes me confused.. I don't know the Japanese language but this one looks different from all the ones I've seen around in internet! can you help me?

  21. Hello all, longtime reader, first time poster! I have here a kozuka I recently acquired with some shinshinto koshirae accompanying a pair of tanto. I am inexperienced with kozuka/kogatana, and any insight and/or translation assistance for this one would be greatly appreciated.
  22. I have a Japanese WWII army/tank crew katana with a 1550 era made blade o-suriage. The scabbard is leather covered and has some writing under the leather strap that i'm having a super hard time identifying. any help would be appreciated.
  23. I own a sword that was passed down from my grandfather who brought it back to the United States after World War II. This sword has lived in attics and garages for the last 50 years, and I am trying to learn more about its history and determine whether it might be something that is worth restoring. If you could help me in any way with translating the signature, I would appreciate it. I tried to get a closer picture of the first couple of symbols that don't show up well on the full signature shot. Thanks! John
  24. Hi All, Looking for some help with this Mei as I'm struggling to recognise most Kanji. I think the Omote starts with Higo as the first 2 Kanji (肥後?) to mark the province and the final 2 Kanji on the Omote are Saku Kore ( 作 之?) - , and the Ura ends with Month 月 ? Any help translating and identifying dates or swordsmith would be most appreciated. Thanks, Will
