  1. A new polish is expensive. The pics are aren't exactly high resolution but have a look at photo No. five and six. Also please contact the seller with the usual questions. Are there any flaws I should be aware of, Do you know who polished the blade etcetera. Oops, if you placed any bids they are withdrawn and you're blocked. So if you're not a VERY experienced buyer stay away. I advice you to keep an eye at the for sale section on this very board instead. If not finding what you're after well just post your own WTB ad. Wish you a good hunt! Kind Regards Daniel
  2. Beautiful blade and nice kids Jim. Please start a new topic and post some photos of the blade. Regards Daniel
  3. Donation made. A big thank you to Brian and all the members for making this a wonderful place.
  4. Yes! http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/12684-gendaito-ota-chikahide/
  5. That's mine :-) Very glad to hear it from someone like you.
  6. Bruno, if you get ahold of a blade by Chikahide please post some pics. My favourite sword is a Chikahide with the original Kai-gunto mounts. How I wish to some day find a Chikahide in or with Type 98 mounts to accompany it. Good luck Daniel
  7. Thanks Grev I'm not seeking information just to sell. Although I'm not a tsuba guy(my interest is WW2 Gendaito) I'm keeping this one. Not used to get things for free. Collectors value or not but I appreciate it. Thank you for the information. All the best Daniel
  8. Thank you guys, i did a quick google search. If I got it right this a tsuba from the Kinai School signed Echizen ju Kinai saku from the 1700-1800 century. This is from my limited search a common motif so I assume it's massproduced. As I said I got it as a gift from a a fellow boardmember as a thank you for your help present. As I didn't expect anything in return for my little help this was a nice surprise. Once again thank you for your help friends.
  9. Thanks Grev, will do a search. Any idea about the mei but maybe the search will tell also...
  10. Hi I got this Tsuba as a present from a friend. I don't expect it to be something extraordinary but I'm thankful because it was a nice gesture to give it to me at all. He said he was told it's early Edo. I would be most grateful if somebody could help me with the Mei or whatever the Kanji is. Thanks in advance Regards Daniel
  11. Don't worry you did "good" 100% sure this is an original. Kind Regards Daniel
  12. Sorry, should be if in Shirasaya I display the koshirae with a tsunagi "edge" down. Regards Daniel
  13. I would say the right way displaying gunto is edge down. However right or wrong I display mine edge up if in koshirae. If in Shirasaya I display the koshirae with a tsunagi edge up. The reason I display a koshirae with a blade edge up is to protect the edge. Regards Daniel
  14. I know Kevin from ryujinswords.com used to have them. Send him an email. Good luck Daniel
  15. Hi Hamish Thank you for your kind words. "Only" one million yen but as someone else once said, take those ratings with a pinch of salt. I think Chris Bowen in a previous thread mention him as one of the best smiths of the showa era and I'm bound to agree. If interested here's a link where this sword is discussed. http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/12684-gendaito-ota-chikahide/ This goes to show what's said so many times before, don't buy because of ratings, fame or name alone. Each sword must be judged on its own merits. Come on guys let those nice Gunto of yours coming.
  16. Benny Post it in the translation section and I'm sure someone can help but not me I'm afraid. Regards Daniel
  17. Hi Good topic and some very nice Gunto. Here's my small collection. The first my favourite, Ota Chikahide in Kai-gunto mounts. Second, Akitaka in Type 3 mounts with leather cover. Third Akimoto Akitomo, Type 98 with leather cover and last Kiyokatsu in Type 3 mounts. Please keep posting folks. Regards Daniel
  18. Thank you Stephen for your advice and comments. I was hoping the new pics along with the previously posted would give an idea of the sword. I normally read this forum and post pics from my phone but viewing the pics at work from a computer I have to admit they are huge. Also as I'm sure many of you are aware of, some swords are a joy to photograph and some are impossible to capture. This blade I'm afraid is the latter. However as said before it's beautiful in hand. Regards Daniel
  19. Hi If somebody's still interested I had the blade out for cleaning during the weekend and took a few shots. Still a lousy photographer with the same iPhone Well anyway I think you can see the Hada is a very tight ko-itame. The blade look a lot better in hand and under the right light it really sparkles. Regards Daniel
  20. Hi Ray Nice swords! Just like Joe I think especially the Sukehiro has potential. Out of curiousity, are the Masatsugu and Sukehiro blades "only" or do they come in mountings or Shirasaya. Nevertheless great swords. Some really good Gendaito lately. Good luck with the sales. Kind Regards Daniel
  21. Hi John A couple of years ago I had a Gimei Hizen Tadakuni which coincidentally also was bought from nihonto.au Some thought it to be a Bungo Takada from the 1600's so maybe that's not a bad call afterall. Please have a look, I think there are some similarities. http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/13776-hizen-tadakuni/?hl=%2Bhizen+%2Btadakuni Anyhow I hope you'll enyoy your new sword. BTW hope you will like it here in Sweden. Best Regards Daniel
  22. Sorry my friend but it's a chinese fake. Regards Daniel
  23. To illustrate what Joe was talking about. Here are two of my Gendaito in the higher quality Type 3 mounts. http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/12218-another-star-stamped-gendaito/ and http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/10597-kiyokatsu-the-sword/ Regards Daniel
  24. +2 No doubt, look at the Kissaki, the wobbly bohi and how it ends.
  25. Hi If interested follow this link where Nick Komiya elaborate his reasoning. I think myself and some other collectors at first reacted against the term he used "poor mans sword". If you read through the text you'll see he meant the reason for the MOUNTS were to speed up production, he also says the blades weren't bad quality. As said when I read the first post by Nick at the wehrmachtawards forum I misunderstood and thought he implied all mounts of this type and the blades were low quality. I then suggested this was about the lower quality Type 3 mounts containing Showato. But after reading the additional info provided by Nick I really think he's on the right track... I think even the higher quality Type 3 Guntokoshirae(those usually containing Gendaito) were faster to produce than the Type 98 Guntokoshirae. Also there hasn't have to be a contradiction between making these new mounts easier/faster to produce and at the same time learn from "the teachings of the battlefield' as Ohmura san says and make them more suited for the battlefield. Sorry, got a little carried away and almost forgot to attach the link :-) http://www.warrelics.eu/forum/Japanese-militaria/deflating-another-myth-type-3-army-officer-s-sword-expanded-version-584796/ Kind Regards Daniel
