    Goto Ichijo Kozuka

Any idea what the ridge at the left of Fuji represents? Maybe it just is a ridge?

    Goto Ichijo Kozuka

Can anyone tell me what the names mean on this Kozuka. I have the translation but I don't know why Goto Ichijo would list names that don't seem to be related to him. Thanks Gary Kozuka: (NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Paper)(consignment sale) Mei (signature) : Ou Yoshida Nanigashi ? Ai Zu Ju/ Goto Norihashi Ichijo(Kao)
  4. Hi - I teach Asian art and history at a local college. I've been a collector of Asian art for 35 years or so. Mostly Chinese but I'm now getting back into collecting Japanese art. I collect netsuke and sword fittings mostly but have somewhat catholic tastes. I also have a collection of Ainu artifacts. Anyone on the Central Coast of California? I miss having contact with other local collectors. I live near Morro Bay. Gary
  5. Am I correct that this Tsuba depicts clouds, snow and snow flakes? Thanks Gary
  6. Can anyone help me with the translation of this box? Thanks Gary
  7. Can anyone tell me why Goto Ichijo has a certain amount of what looks like damage on this Tsuba.  It must have a purpose.  Thanks

  9. Here's a Goto piece as an example.
  10. Thanks everyone. Very helpful. Would restoration invalidate Hozen papers though?
  11. Is it ever OK to restore lost gold leaf on fittings or should they always be left as is?

  13. Thanks - I am a member of NCJSC. I would be interested in joining the Monterey group.
  14. Hi All - I'm a long time collector of Chinese and Japanese art work. Lately concentrating on Japanese sword furniture and netsuke. Because I live midway between LA and SF I don't have much opportunity to get together with other collectors. I live in the San Luis Obispo area. If there are other collectors in the general area who would like to get together occasionally to talk shop, have lunch, etc. please contact me. Gary Bierly gbierly@hancockcollege.edu
