  1. Thanks Jean, yes i mean the transition from hamon to clearer steel. I think you're right about it being sharpened, i'll have to take a better look when i receive it, i'll likely be back with more questions and better photos. This is my first katana, prior to this i'd only dealt with tanto and some urushiware so it's a tad overwhelming.
  2. Thank you Rokujuro, much appreciated input. The blade was sold as an "17/18th century mumei", that much i can agree with. I can't see much of the hada from the photos but it looks present, i mean there's certainly something there. Apologies, i should've included these photos in the OP There also appears to be a small kizu but i can live with that.
  3. Here's the entire blade if it's of use (left blade). I haven't actually received it yet so i can't take any more photos myself. The seppa are a mess, seem to be a hodge-podge of materials, all recent additions. I don't think the habaki is original either, it seems wonky.
  4. Hello all, i've a fairly simple question (i hope). The hamon on this piece is consistent throughout the entire blade apart from this area here where it seems to vanish nearer the ha, is this normal or should i be concerned? I figured that perhaps it was sharpened poorly at some point. Thanks in advance,

    Katana feedback

Beautiful, glad it's gone to a good home. Looking forward to seeing it around on the forums.
  6. This sucks big time, is the parcel insured? Either way my fingers are crossed and i hope it'll turn up soon. These are the worst case scenarios that really put me off buying internationally. Such low-lives out there.
  7. What do you make of this? The texture is giving me fibreglass vibes but i've seen other jingasa with a rough texture so i'm unsure. The first photo is the jingasa in question, the second is another i've found with a similar texture.
  8. I'm in a similar position and https://www.aoijapan.com/ has been a godsend. Hi res photos are as close as i'll get to handling many of these high-end blades for the time being. I've only ever been interested in indo-persian arms/armour and prior to finding this forum every Japanese sword looked like one of those £50 'ninja sword' you'd see in the corner shop window. Battle damaged weapons are fascinating. I'd love to see the bullet-damaged blade sometime, assuming you've got it handy of course.
  9. Big fan of your tsuba, looks like it's fluttering in the breeze. Can't say much about the blade as i'm a total rookie.
