  1. Wondering if anyone knows what the significance would be of having "prize" or "reward" written on a kyu gunto? Is this common or maybe custom to this sword? See pics of the kanji in the first pic below. I have been told this is a Kyu Gunto parade saber with an etched hamon, but not sure why it has this kanji on it. I'm a novice on military sword history. Anyone able to help with the background story maybe? Thanks! Andrew
  2. Hi John, Wow! I believe you are correct. My picture is upside down I guess, but when I flip it over I can see that is the same kanji. Do you know what the significance would be of having "prize" or "reward" written on a kyu gunto? Is this common or maybe custom to this sword? Thanks, Andrew
  3. Hi All, Wondering if someone is able to assist with the translation on this Kyu Gunto grip? I have not seen anything similar on any other Kyu Guntos I have researched on the forums. Thanks! Andrew
  4. Thanks for the info! I have attached a few pics of the blade so that you can take a look. -Andrew
  5. Hoping someone can help ID this sword. It appears to be a Kyu Gunto from my research, but I am a novice so I'm unsure. Also not sure about the time period. I am also curious if anyone is able to translate the writing/markings on the guard pictured in the last photo below. Appreciate any insight you all may have. Thanks! Andrew
