  3. Hi all I have opertunity to purchase the attached, These are all the photos I have and no other info Seller says the handle has not been off and knows nothing about item Cost would be 250 euro So from the v poor information what do you think, are the fittings of reasonable quality Even if the blade (of which I have no information on except that it has a blade) A friend found it in an antique shop they said the blade is not in great condition. But the person knows noth8ng about Japanese items I can buy it tomorrow and pick up on saturday or do you think it is just rubbish. So assume the blade is rusted and pitted am I getting something nice and of good quality from the images shown, the fittings to my eye look good I am a risk taker and if I loose a few euro 8 will at least gain some education Thanks Ken
  4. Thanks guys Looks like it has some age to it but I taught the engravings looked v v odd Happy Christmas to you all Ken

  14. Hi all Thanks for all the votes of no confidence, I appreciate the culmination of knowledge you all have given freely. I will leave the knife where it is. Regards Ken
  15. MmHi This is only image from a seller I have He is calling it a Persian knifen I would be making offer on just what you see I believe I can see a hamon on the blade any opinions or taught? Much appreciated Ken
  16. Hi My hobby is two fold I buy to sell and I buy to collect (I make a profit of a 3-4 thousand euro on my hobby on a yearly basis plus my collection continually is growing) I predominately collect Irish flintlock pistols and Indian bladed weapons and of these I never sell unless I purchase an upgrade of one i already have in my collection and I move on the lesser item. I never sell from my collection unless i have the upgrade already in my hand. I have 2 Japanese swords at the moment and they will be sold eventually but only when i am ready as I like them. Some items I have sold within a day but all my selling goes into a separate bank account so when something better comes along I have the cash at the ready. When selling my wife actually asks am i sure as she has seen me annoyed in the past over sales I have made, but unusually when there are lack of funds in my collection account she has no worries about me buying items out of the main house account as she knows i will pay back with the profit on the next sales. (I value this support a lot) In the past I have sold somethings I liked ( a good deal came along and i sold the item) then i got the cash and for example paid the car insurance with the money. This I regret as I have nothing tangible from the item left and there is cash in the bank. I don't think you fully know whether you should have sold until you walk away without the item and just have money in your pocket. Just my taughts Regards Ken
  17. Hi Curran Thanks for that, i don’t see an obvious signature on the one you have put up. Maybe it is there just I don’t see it. Does this matter or is it all about style of work. Basic question here, is the one I have signed to an individual or to a school and what age are we talking about. Cheers Ken
  18. Hi David Sorry are you agreeing with Bruce or are saying he is incorrect in that it might be showato Also what is a Seki Togariba Hamon and is this what I have I am totally out of my knowledge base here. Thanks Ken
  19. Hi Both, Thanks for information and it looks as if i did OK on this sword as well. Pity there is no markings on the sword but it is exciting when you take off the Tsuka and get to see what is underneath. I taught the mounts looked OK condition, where do they fall down as not being in good condition? (just information for potential future purchases not criticising your commnets) I took it that the green on the Menuki would be a good thing to indicate the sword has not been messed with. Regards Ken
  20. Hi I have acquired this Gunto in a job lot, along with some v good Indian swords and a Wakizashi, I have this up on the genuine Japanese part of the forum and it is getting a good response. I am assuming it is a Type 98 officers sword, machine made, and the paint on the Nakago is manafacture labeling and doesn’t help much Nothing else on either side of the Nakago The hamon is quiet strong, v hard to photograph and I now appreciate your groups photography a lot more. And I would put the blade condition at a medium. Scabbard is metal beneath the leather cover Blade length is 68 cm So am I correct in my identification and is the tassel ok to this sword and what rank does this indicate, I will probably be selling this to subsidies a potential polish on the Wakizashi, if it is Ok with moderator what is approx value of this sword Many thanks Ken
  21. Hi all Thank you all for comments and taughtful postings. I am an interloper on this forum, just passing through, the complexity of your study is amazing and a lot of you have a knowledge base that is emence, and you give knowledge freely which is again appreciated The sword in question was only purchased on a whim and cost was minimal. I am not here to just learn raw value of an item, but to learn what it is, I don’t mind the money conversation so I take no offense at this line of conversation. I enjoy the acquisition of knowledge and learning what makes a good sword a great sword. To tell the truth I am amazed I have a sword that is approx 450 years old and I thank you for telling me this and ensuring I do not do any butchery of cleaning on it. I will never get it polished, I probably will sell it eventually but no rush. It will reside with fellow Asian swords from India so it won’t be completely lost, it actually is a nice addition. The tsuba is wasted on me as I do not appreciate it for being a work of art and this I will probably sell on as someone else will get a lot more value from it than I Again thanks again and if I turn up something else I will be back, the same source as where I got this sword may have more Japanese swords and knives so I have a bit more knowledge and might acquire something to show to you all. Kind regards to you all Ken
  22. Hi Here is a picture of the side of the tsuba And a close up of the blade nick Thanks Ken
