  1. Hi, One thing is certain, it is not a Wakasa no kami Ujifusa blade. Even Ujifusa are more numerous in shinto times i think this one is late Muromachi (mass product?)
  2. Hi, No stamp + made after 1940 = gendaito. the whole workmanship seems confirm this blade is not a showa-tô but a gendai one.
  3. Hi, Sorry for my frankness You are now owner of a nice piece of metal. the positive thing being you can see what is a tsukare utsuri. Low ranked smith + tired blade is not, in my opinion, a good deal.
  4. Hi, Shinshinto swords are not more expensive than the others. All depend by whom is made the blade and its condition; you can find shinshinto blade at a reasonable price (see link below). Sure if you want a Kiyomaro or a Masatsugu the price will be high but not too high in regard of a shodai Tadayoshi or a Inoue Shinkai for example. http://japaneseswords.gotdns.com/100Gendai49.htm
  5. Hi, That is confirmed by Fujishiro.
  6. Hi, Jason, Can you show us the whole nakago and the kissaki please?
  7. Hi, Yes, sometimes he signed with a niji mei.
  8. Hi, Hard to tell something, it is said that Iyehiro made mainly suguha, also that his work resembles that of Harima Kiyomitsu (whom also made gunome midare) , and i've not found some work of him matching with yours.
  9. Hi, There are Inoue Shinkai and his father, already quoted on Nihontocfrat's site.
  10. Hi, No, Izumi no kami Kunisada is not the smith who made your sword (he was the father of Inoue Shinkai and lived in Settsu). About your smith i can only say that says Fujishiro. Kawashi Daijo Fujiwara Kunisada should be the first Kunisada. He died in 1673 and he is not called Furukawa Magodayu. It seems Kanetoyo (who says he died in 1660) does not know very much on him.
  11. Hi, He is rated chujo by Fujishiro and he is Ryôwazamono. Worths 250 man in the Toko taikan. I've only one example of his signature (it is the same blade in both books), but the style of engraving looks different and the nakago jiri doesn't match.
  12. Hi, The mei reads Kashu no ju Fujiwara Iyehiro saku.
  13. Hi, You're right Guido, it was a slip of the tongue :? Thanks for the corrective.
  14. Hi, Quote Fujishiro Shinto jiten: Quote the seller: . Kunisada never produced utsuri (utsuri was extremely scarce in shinto times) and i wonder what is a masa-utsuri. I'm afraid we must understand "masa-utsuri" by shirake (tired) utsuri
  15. Hi, Instead of buying a sword, the first thing you can do is to buy some good books. It will be surely more profitable for you.
  16. Hi, Sorry Mark, I don't find this one in my library
  17. Hi, Mark, there are several Masakuni since koto to gendai; find one without seeing the mei(nakago/blade) is really difficult.
  18. Hi, Jean, If the saya of your friend looks like this below, this lacquer is called Kokushitsu Mushikui Urushi (Mushikui = eaten by insects). According ZVD, explain how it is made, needs 3 weeks of time.
  19. Hi, In 1949, 7 swordsmiths were authorized to forge 60 swords for the rebuilding of the Ise Shrine. These smiths were Miyaguchi Toshihiro, Takahashi Sadatsugu, Miyari Akihira, Ishi Akifusa, Nigara Kunitoshi, Endo Mitsuiki, Sakai Shigemasa. It seems the SakutÅ Gijutsu HappyÅkai was not only an exhibition but also a contest.
  20. Hi, It is not august, it is the eighth month of the year. About the months in the dating, i've regained my post.
  21. Hi The month Grey, not the day, i've already spoken about the significance of the monthes used in dating, but i can't regain my post.
  22. Hi, Many things are wrong (compared with shoshin Hosokawa Masayoshi) on this blade: Nakago jiri is quite different, yasurime too, the kanji masa is not the same. This blade shows an ordinary workmanship, and i don't find the characteristics of Masayoshi work.
