  1. True yes. But i have problems to understand when one or two things not like in the books. Is not so easy to explain. I think this blade looks very similar to a showa blade. But the quality is not like a wartime blade. The nakago looks different from a shin shinto blade, but its not older like shin shinto. Hmm, its difficult. Maybe there is nothing important. A Nihonto from a unknown smith. A weapon not more? I would say now, forged between 1850 and 1900. That Nihonto theme is so difficult.
  2. I have some really problems to judge a blade in age. Hamfish shows today an ebay offer of a Gunto with "old" blade. The sword is sold, but i tried today to find out if this blade was a gendaito, a shinshinto or older blade. I didn't know. The sword had some flaws, that is not typical for wartime gendaito. The shape is typical showa, in my eyes. But the nakago has a deep patina. What is your suggestion about the period of this blade. If you could explain why? http://vi.vipr.ebaydesc.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemDescV4&item=222713734302&t=1510300807000&tid=10&category=66841&seller=koushuya&excSoj=1&excTrk=1&lsite=0&ittenable=false&domain=ebay.com&descgauge=1&cspheader=1&oneClk=1&secureDesc=0 I hope to learn something.
  3. Yes Stephen thats true. It's the kind of forging the steel. They didn't rust very fast. Btw i read last an article in which they said that the iron sand in Japan is sometimes very different. The Tamahagene is from different quality in the provinces. So sometimes you see old blades with less oder thiner patina. I didn't know if its true or not. The Kunitoshi have a Star Stamp and a Seki Stamp for its gendaito.
  4. Looks like a Gendaito. (Edit: it is a wartime blade i think) The Koshirae is very nice and it seems in very good condition. You got the blade for less. Interesting hamon.
  5. Sandpaper on the nakago - thats a no go you destroy the worth of your sword. Looks like an old katana. Only a try (I'm novice).
  6. Maybe an Officer who carried a NCO Gunto? The NCO was a very robust battle sword.
  7. The sword is on a auction from a member here. It is a wakizashi. No mountings, no habaki, condition must be polished. Is this gold in the signature / date? Martin i had this marks on a Nakago on my wakizashi from "Hide-xy" I asked myself what it is. http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/24070-nice-little-waki-mei-help/ There are 3 markings underlayed with gold, copper or something else
  8. Hello Jean, on the other side is nothing to see. Maybe under that heavy rust?
  9. Hi Hamfish, i saw this sword couple a days ago on ebay. That is fittet completely from parts other swords. Nothing fits together. A seppa is missing there is a lot of space between tsuba and Tsuka. First look the sword was interesting. I ask myself why none of the ebay sellers put a little oil on their swords.
  10. Great guys, i allways enjoy your knowledge. This board is better than any school lessons!
  11. But these are fine ones to complete a sword. I'm sure that someone who needs menuki for a carp theme would really like this menukis. For collecting it is not the right ones.
  12. Nice one Luis. I would say mid muromachi. Rim lower 0.3 cm? Have you tried to read the signature? Best Chris
  13. Hi, I try to read that mei. But fail.
  14. In good condition in mounts for $1600, great. I think no. You got a nice showa-to for this price. But no Gendaito in mounts with a good condition. I would take two.
  15. That le corbusier style (older bauhaus) is not my style. It's cold, without heart and made for robots not for humans. I think most people will kill themselfs in such housings. This kind of architecture is my style, i like it (a friend of mine).
  16. 1.600 what? US-Dollar, CAD, Yen, EUR? I think you must pay 1.600 CAD for a nice Showa-to. A gendaito in good condition ist around 1.800 - 2.000 US-Dollar from a medium to high smith.
  17. It often happened that the signature was removed. Look in the books "Japanese sword stories" from Markus. There are examples why the mei was removed. That does not just affect the swords of muramasa. But indeed it is a very nice sword. Cheers Chris
  18. Stephen on this 58 Tsuba website is a chinese fake tsuba listet Edit: i see maybe 3 ones they are not genuine.
  19. Looks like a genuine wakizashi blade with a bad history in a strange "not coming from Japan" saya. Btw. this could by a wartime wakizashi with a leather saya. The mounts are under the leather. But the saya didn't really fit to the blade. I think this "foreign" made saya is only a protection for the waki blade. I try: 守定作 morisada saku ??
  20. Haha John i was the same thinking as i see it. But why the hell they ask such a price. Thats total crazy (the ebay costs are much higher than the package)
  21. This offer looks in my eyes like an old franklin mint package. The price is a little strange. Any idea? https://www.ebay.com/itm/A-Set-of-3PCS-Stunning-Amazing-Rare-Old-Japanese-Real-Steel-Swords-Marked-US166/302424835158?hash=item4669ecc456:g:1psAAOSwYxBaA~--
  22. I will look for a mantetsu too. Btw. i like rusty nakago. That will be the later patina
