  1. The more the merrier, guite a few of the usual suspects are conspicuously absent....hopefully they'll find their way back. Meanwhile we could always start a haiku thread. Cheers, -S-
  2. Ah, knew you had it in you! Cheers, -S-

Pardon, with numbers like yours (none are likely to match them) whats a measly 1,000 or so? Cheers, -S-

Stephen, Steve has got it, anyone who can't figure out who you are is lacking the basic skills to navigate this place.....12,284 posts and growing says it all. Cheers, -S-
  5. Sounds like their is a haiku here! Reinhard has a good point, I think many of us understand this, but as we prefer order to chaos the old convention will probably continue. Cheers, -S- p.s.- That old box must be getting large and heavy.
  6. Piers, Very nice staghorn Asakusa school piece, you've found another interesting one. Adding/added to the collection? Cheers, -S-
  7. Pietro, Christian is a wonderment to most here, with time you'll start to work things out. At any rate, I think you've made an excellent point. Cheers, -S-
  8. Very informative and thought provoking reading. Much water has passed under the bridge Peter, you've been productive ....i've got a lot of catching up to do! Cheers, -S-
  9. Great price on an excellent book! Hope someone here takes you up on your recommendation, they will thank you many times while using it. -S-
  10. Jeremiah, No armor expert here, but I find both sets interesting and attractive. As Karashishi are one of my favourite motifs I really like the breastplate on the first set...very well executed. -S-

Francois, Do either of you have a picture of the ura, I wonder which tsuba is the chicken and which the egg? -S-
  15. Your correct Malcolm , more gold coinage! Also, a mlni neighborhood police unit....Kōban. -S-
  16. Careful observation will reveal the shifting of the planes of the sky, nothing simple about it. All in all, this tsuba is an impressive example of perspective produced through trompe l'oeil. -S-
  17. Agreed. Concerning the other part of your statement....let others take it as they will. -S-
  18. Good thought Pietro but as we've seen many times, and as you have said, Wikipedia has proven to be an unreliable source. It's too often a catch all for unchecked opinion. Personally, I don't think this calligrapher is related in any way....but again, this is more unchecked opinion. Cheers, -S-
  19. Despite Englands title as THE premierJapanese art collectors European destination, these offerings remind us to look to France ,the oft overlooked treasure trove. -S-
  20. It is, and gold coinage. Typo, meant Obon... thanks for calling it to my attention Malcolm. -S-
  21. Something like these would be nice, shakudo and gold by Minayama Oki. Collection of MFA, Boston. -S-
  22. No doubt, the Brite bulb is not his quarry. And yes, a good number of his customers will likely find their way here. -S-
  23. Pietro, FWIW, I've heard two varying opinions concerning this name- (1) It's that of a retailer who contracted the work from various kilns, (2) They made the wares themselves. As we find the name on things made of differing materials (metal, etc.)...Option one seems the most likely. -S-
  24. Perhaps he's discovered a market none of us anticipated. -S-
