Great stand, Chris, and a very fine helmet. Can't wait to see what the new year brings, bet the finished product will fulfill your Christmas dreams.
Cheers,

Jeremiah,
I think it's an excellent example, from the bashing at the mouth of the kozuka it appears to be possibly soldered though, if it were stuck it would have likely come free. As for the dual motif, I think it makes the piece more interesting.

I find your reaction curious Jay, isn't the point of your listing discussion? Discussing is what you received!

It's not unusual for coinage from those courting favor, to come from any widely accepted source. Whether a gift from a country, another royal, or a trader(East India Co.,etc.) gold coins of antiquity would not be surprising. Gold is gold.

Very distressing news, hope he is feeling better soon. The harassment mentioned on facebook is shocking, shame on those involved.

Very instructive, Peter, I enjoyed it, sure many will.
Thanks,

Jean, maybe it is not intersting for you but for others
Personally, I believe everyone should decide what is of interest to them, what some find interesting others do not....it's not my place to instruct people on what they, should, or should not collect.

Hi. This hachi was just auctioned in the UK and I would have loved to buy it if it was genuine. There lies the problem. Is it Japanese? And is it genuine, if so howls old? Thanks. Mark
Hmm could it be a chinese too? Looks really cool Mark
Here is another piece that begs the services of an Archeologist in this area of study...otherwise we're all just guessing.

Pietro,
Bottom line....this tsuba proves that the dead can live on.

Looks like EVERYTHING has happened to this poor tsuba.

p.s.- Geraint, my favorite Python sketch........'Dead?'....."It's resting.....Probably pining for the fjords."

Thanks, Ray.

Pietro,
Looks like something unearthed during an archaeological dig, If I were you I'd grab it....could be worth a small fortune!

After some hours later, it became more and more like a hood.

Maybe interesting:
The first bundle of string 8m is empty now. I have finished half the way so i think i need another 8m of string.
No need for 'hopes for a good result' Chris, it looks as if it will turn out fine....a bit more work and you'll have it !

I think Chris is right about the period, as to school I wouldn't say offhand, could be several. In addition, two things are certain it is beautiful, and it was not made circa 710-794.

What a jumble, many people saying more or less the same thing in different words. Personally I think it's a traditionally made piece, not a casting. The fake part is that it is 'gimei' and not a period work by the artist. Also, it does need the attention of FH to put it in order. My stated opinion is a composite one, I think it's obvious who's opinions I endorse. BTW, the comparison of apples/oranges only clouds the facts.

The poor merchant never had a chance, what a glowing endorsement!

Peter, FYI, I'm getting an error message- the document cannot be opened because it is corrupted or damaged.

I think it's not enough to read the sword and tosogu books. We have to do more!

Chris,
It's looking very good, finely executed, I'm impressed....is there anything you can't do?
Enjoy your well earned rest,

Another consideration is the relative prominence of the menuki. In some tsukamaki styles they are featured, In others they are obscured. Then there are the unwrapped styles where the menuki are in the spotlight...... some Tanto and tachi.
