  1. I think he was simply meaning to say that he (if that is his email address (being specific would help)) hasn't heard anything yet..
  2. I can't confirm any polishing skills, but he seems to have been a lecturer at the Dutch ToKen society at one point. Maybe that helps.
  3. Thanks Brian! I'll check it out:) At-least i didn't hear its a dead - ringer for a fake! like so many topics.. Edit: Great tip! First one i checked out doesn't match entirely. But the signature's 'flair' is certainly the same and it has multiple aspects that seem similar.
  4. Hi! I'm watching an online auction of an old (but not very old), koshirae. I don't know very much about tsuba, but its an iron one, with a dragon carved on the front, going around the mimi(?) to the backside. See below. I'm wondering, since there's quite alot of (red = active(?)) rust. Could I clean this and stop it from corroding further without having to send it in for expert maintenance? Perhaps with pure alcohol or something? And would it be worth the trouble? I think it looks quite nice (apart from the rust.. ) Second, there is a signature, and what looks like a kao in gold (or copper/bronze) inlay, any ideas on authenticity and who perhaps was the maker? And lastly could this be of the Kinai school? From what i know they used to do alot of designs with dragons and worked with iron 99,9% of the time(?). Thank you for reading.
  5. Wow thank you for showing. They really fit nicely together.

    Tachi Kamakura

I'm sorry if i'm asking an arbitrary question, but if this blade in question wasn't o-suriage then why would the bohi extent to the very bottom of the nagako? Weren't they usually made from say the top of the shinogi to the part where the habaki would fit?

    Katana MURAMASA

Any more information listed? And generally with this I'd say what seems too good to be true, most likely is.
  8. Not to derail this threat. But i'm gonna go with you and/or a very groovy barber with a very aesthetically pleasing way of representing himself. On topic though, its really a shame someone thought it was a good idea to carve roman numerals on the blade..
  9. Now that looks a whole lot lovelier than the original to me:) Quick with the stamp-brush thingie in photoshop! Edit: also on second thought i don't necessarily dislike the moon addition, but it doesn't look close to the same standard..
  10. I'm not even close to being experienced in tsuba but i would think that the moon is a later addition. It would look better without it.
  11. Sure they wouldn't prefer blocking with the cutting edge, but generally the back side was used and able in blocking or getting in a standoff? Mune against each other.
  12. Experienced togishi won't take out those battle scars. Maybe what you want is just a slight touch up polish.

    Daisho Kinai

Hi everyone, in advance, thank you for reading! I'm in the final stages of completing a daisho koshirae. In which there were antique f/k, menuki and tsuba. And generally i just lurked from a far on the nihonto section (because I'm far from knowledgeable, and even further from being so on togusu), but I've noticed that there are a really different group of experts on this forum. So with that idea, i figured i might get some opinions on the tsuba i picked. Information i received; "Mei (signature): Echizen Jyuu Kinai saku Kinai School: http://www.users.on.net/~coxm/?page=TsubaIII Dai (large): Length : 7.52 cm x 7.23 cm Thickness of rim : 0.55 cm Sho (small): Length :7.14cm x 6.99 cm Thickness of rim : 0.52 cm Jidai(era) : Early Edo period Shiitake is engraved in kebori (brush like texture) manner." Personally i really like the design. I was hoping to find togusu with a natural theme. I'm not very apt when it comes to reading signatures, but it seems the signatures don't match perfectly. Any thoughts on this or perhaps Kinai school tsuba in general? From what i read the masters of the school signed "Echizen Jyuu/Yu Kinai saku" but again i'm nothing but a beginner. Thanks again for reading. Best regards,
  14. Wow just exceptional! Thank you for showing so much of your personal space & craft. Gorgeous shaping work.
  15. I can't be of any help pinpointing you in the right direction, but i was just wondering if its really that blue in hand? Did you take the pics in sunlight or lamps, its really blue
  16. Hi Bob, everyone, Maybe i spoke too fast without really writing what i was thinking about, what i like is the fishnet lacquer saya. I was happy to have written 'once you're positively convinced' or something along those lines. Obviously, if you have money to spend, go for a high end piece. But really when money is sparse you'll have to make due, try to find a piece that you can learn some things from and maybe if you can get it cheaply and its in good condition without faults you could have it polished. pff thats better
  17. I like the koshirae. Was there a shirasaya for the tanto as well? And also once you're positively convinced its the real deal, you could always send it to a polisher and you might become even more surprised:)

Instead of posters, what is possible with just the digital images; is to have them printed on canvas. I have a Hubble print on canvas which really surprised me with the quality, though swords are all together different, perhaps it'll also look good:)

Wow, awesome! Thank you for sharing. I've been keeping tabs on your website (although i don't ever be able to afford one of those;). Would it be possible to get the first photo in 2550x1440 resolution for a background?

    72.5 CM Ken

I think that in the earliest of times, Japanese artisans created mainly straight-swords, in all lengths..
  22. Time for an update! As i received the option to exchange the Nagamichi wakizashi, for a o-wakizashi by Hisayuki that is what i went with. Its a gorgeous piece as well with much activity. I'll add photo's later, but for now, we're looking for a daisho F/K set that will fit the tachi, because the Goto school daisho set we found ended up not fitting. Also i was very lucky to have a considerate seller, who ended up selling the Nagamichi wakizashi + the saya that already was into the lacquer stages like the completed ishime saya for the tachi:) So all in all, not ready yet, but I'm getting there.
  23. Hi there, I can't give you any specific information because I'm not familiar with the smith and his work. However what struck me is that what you might want to look into is the things the shodai was interested in (the smiths he liked and why), and also, what the main difference in the periods of existence were. So you can get a better understanding of why and how this specific smith worked (or at least can create your image for this project). And to finish, please keep us updated on your project, i would be interested in seeing your work.
  24. Its a shame KS only works with credit cards. In the States most likely everyone has one but in Europe its much less used. I for one missed on several campaigns because they don't accept paypal or ideal.
  25. That's good to hear! I'll reload the zip file with all indexes for the single volume sheet. Thank you for sharing!
