Jim I and I'm sure others would like to see the complete koshirae, btw some very good photo work is done here, some background shadow on the kissaki that thru us off path a bit but well done in the photo dept. I have a gut felling that it was done my a modern knife maker, don't think its old, one of the more interesting threads of late, hope you keep us updated. I think Brian has you in the right direction. it brings to mind a old Ken Kesey quote. " The answer is never the answer. What's really interesting is the mystery.   2. more pix are in order, full nakago and sugata of the blade, kissaki looks good.
  3. agree that the nakago looks buggered, looks the same on top and bottom but not in the middle,dont think this was some great find.
  4. i think the hole cuts off a kuni so it would be rai kuni...last kanji ill have to work on it. turned the pix rightway up some tweeking maybe Kunitsugu?

  8. A light taping to with a small hammer to the flaky rust will remove it with out alot of rubbing. then just use a light coat of oil. no major rubbing you just want to stop the red rust.
  9. Jimmy, what makes you think its machine made, if you get the pix i ask for we can look up the smith. the ebay pix was sideways to sunday, the nakago looked ok so lets go from there.

  11. think the color on the habaki is from corrosion on the nakago, id want to stop that rust fast, mabye a good soaking in a oil bath, at least brush oil on the dark red rust by the habaki, needs some TLC
  12. date side is Bunkwa Ju or 1813 dont get the first four on the mei side last part looks like Kuni Hidemichi, someone ..er or Nobody will fill in the blanks and correct me if im wrong.
  13. dont think egg yolk was promoted, more of a joke, as far as liver of sulfer being a what not....guess it depends if youve used it or not. Think Henry has the best idea, just wanted to know if there was black on top of a sliver wash.
