  1. is it just me or does anyone else think most of the meis in this auction to be done by the same hand. do a tsuba search too for some wild new tsuba. http://www.bonhams.com/cgi-bin/public.s ... blicSite.r
  2. it may be at first but with some going back and forth you'll get the hang of it. On the NMB we encourage newbie's to try not just give it to them. so i hope you dont get the date from a member but try to look it up. Yes Kanemune
  3. Well thats because your not use to a wide range of ways Kane was done...it is Kanemune...now try the date your self here http://www.geocities.com/alchemyst/kanji/nengo.htm and the Kanji pages above.
  4. use the kami in the benjo and remove the mei...ya got a nice sword
  5. TJ dont think anyone thinks something wrong with the tsuka ito, maybe a shot of the fuchi, most likely a add on but hard to tell from pix and not in hand.
  6. I don't know, look in the first photo the fuchi seems to be up next to the Ito, without seppa everything's gapped, photos sometimes tell us a lot but can deceive, agree with Ian better than average habaki. Very easy to trash based on photos, lets be careful out there guys.
  7. Thanks Franco small world having met you and not knowing, see a few faces and maybe my legs....think thats Howard Clark sitting off to the left in the large shot with folks sitting down watching....nice to think back to those days. Hai domo!
  8. Hawleys has him from early 1400's to mid 1500's. Id ask a good togi about removing that paint job...its keep the rust (patina) from doing its job to date the sword and tsuba.
  9. bit of a puzzle, the nakago and tsuba look like they may have had lacquer placed on them??? if you have access to a scanner I like to see it scanned ...maybe its the flash or your back light, color looks off on both.
  10. I think were all wondering if you cleand the area where the mei is? It reads Bizen Kunimitsu please a full shot of the nakago in natural light so we can see the patina.
  11. I agree at least work on the smith, Kane is easly found ...what books do you have. Maybe find a Japanese Samurai Sword by John Yumoto and work on kanji from his book or check with Grey Doffen for his flash cards.
  12. Thanks Rich i overlooked that part of his question.
  13. I think its Noshu Sukenobu http://home.earthlink.net/~ttstein/sukenobu.jpg btw for a blade in polish with mounts that's not a bad price might even talk it down some. edit to add , I think id call it Gendaito not showa to but that's splitting hairs
  14. most of these if not all. You cannot make this blade any more that it is with romantic notions.
  15. was hoping to learn more on why the extra hole...any thoughts?
  16. It opened i just did not wait long enough, as stated above its a steel tsunagi ...or one heck of a blade showing all kizu one can find.
  17. I agree whats wrong with white font? as far as the zip file....it dont open
  18. Very interesting tsuba, I hope to learn some more about it from our tosogu experts, why the larger Kogai bitsu and why the extra hole next to the Kozuka bitsu, the kanji under it? Looking forward to more on this.
  19. Well I guess I cant expect you to do the burnish....just oil the dang thing like I told ya months ago over on the mark, choji oil is just mineral oil with hint of clove in it. PM me
  20. Yokote: 横手 Line separating the point from the rest of the blade.
  21. I know ill hear screams and out crys, the red bubbly rust needs to be stopped, a very hard steel edge needs to be burnished on the rust thats never sleeping....any oil now not until the choigi comes.
  22. pretty sure i said about four hundred years old in one email....maybe you were at the beach
