This is becoming a pattern.

Any idea when this will be released more widely? Would love to see it.
No word as of yet, I'll ask him and let you know what he says.

I'll be interested to see if it turned out well.

Old Army buddy of mine I was deployed with back in the early 2000s did this documentary (along with several other people) about attempting to return a surrendered sword to its original owner.
I haven't seen it yet but it has been winning a fair amount of awards at independent film festivals.

I'm a fan of it. For the price tag I could hardly beat it!
I'll try to take some pics of it this week if we can get a decent day for reasonable lighting.

Mihara seems a solid guess and they share a lot of similar features with Aoe.
Beautiful blade!

I've seen it too. It's just a modern cheap way to make fittings work better I think.
Natural rubber has been used since BC times for things and modern day "rubber" as we think of it has been around hundreds of years in one form or another, but I agree I really doubt period artisans used it.

Hi Rob,
I have a Mac and sometimes (not always though) I have the same problem.. I have had to edit my post (and uploads) several times to get it right.. Can't explain it.. sorry.
Anyway, congratulations on your Tsuba, although it looks like the Kogai-ana was added later - by the fact it cuts through the design - and the patina could do with some improvement, but otherwise its a nice little tsuba. Someone obviously liked it enough to modify and fit to their sword. It could have been loved a bit more in a previous life, looking at the condition of the iron and the patina, but we find that sometimes.. I always like the presence of Sekigane in/ on Tsuba showing that it was once worn..
Barrie.
Thanks Barrie that's fantastic info.
Wonder if it has sentimental value to someone or maybe they used it as a practice piece to work on designs? The added designs are quite nice quality in my opinion.
Kinda neat to find niceness quality somewhat intricate design on such a plain basic iron tsuba. A nice duality.

Thanks Ray. That makes complete sense; not sure why I didn't consider that angle. Still learning! Shame to see a sword have that occur to it. Clearly it effects the value, too.

So I ran across something while perusing Aoi's site:
This blade specifically says "but we can't find hamon for some reason."
Am I misreading the high-res pictures? I swear I see a hamon or what looks like a hamon, right up until it hits the kissaki. Is that just an angle of light thing?
Forgive me if this is a dumb question.

Speaking of champagne, here's a Tokuju Niji Kunitoshi we can all get behind: http://www.nihonto.com/niji%20kunitoshi.html
The best champagne is always "price on request" after all.
Wow is right.
That kanteisho is some nice icing on that cake too!

Hello all,
When commissioning a new tsuka, having a new tsuba etc fitted to a blade and the like, or having a new saya or shirasaya made, generally who have you all found to have good service and be reliable?
Say if in the future I find a themed set I like for a blade I possess that either doesn't have fittings or has sub-par fittings, where are some honest places I could go to have the set fitted etc?
It's not something I'm doing now, but I want to know where to look in the future if I do wish it done.

Thanks Greg! I was like "I don't think anyone said anything inappropriate?" lol.

This had more comments on it that seem to have been deleted...?

Yes I'm aware of be steps but didn't know if two
Smiths would ever work on the same blade like that at once. It did seem far fetched but just mulling over ideas. Thank you for your input!

Wonderful information, thank you Ray! I find the pattern to be very interesting!

Decided to go ahead and pick up another Yari while I was at it with the new Katana.
Sue Seki Yari (Hozon), almost a 16" blade. Nice sturdy sankaku yari in good polish with a cool hamon. Interesting how the hamon is unevenly done; stylistic thing or sign of it being worked on by two people at once to rush production, or what? Any idea? Just shooting in the dark here, perhaps I'm wondering at the importance of something that really has no importance.

"It's currently making it's way through various film festivals. Even while it's doing that our audio guy is touching every up. Our colorist is 1/3 of the way through. As for an actual date of release, I don't have one right now."
