mercierarmory Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 I am helping another friend with a translation of his sword. This friend is across the pond in the UK so I can't see the sword in person. The pictures are pretty clear and it is in WWII Army mountings but looks like an ancestral blade. It is really intriguing and I am very curious of its translation. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mike Quote
cabowen Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 Omi no Kami Minamoto Hisamichi There were several generations in this line, and there are fakes as well. It is an older blade..... Quote
Geraint Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 Hi Mike, There are people over here who would be happy to look at the sword if that's any help. Couple of board members down here in the far south west at least. Cheers Quote
runagmc Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 The omote is signed Izumi no Kami Rai Kinmichi 和泉守来金道, and Chris already gave you the mei on the ura. If it's genuine, it's what's known as gasaku, which means it's a joint work by the two smiths. Quote
cabowen Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 Sorry for missing the Izumi no Kami Rai Kinmichi mei, the photo didn't open on my browser and I never noticed the icon.... Yes, would be a gassaku if genuine....If you are able to post additional photos of each side of the blade, it would be helpful. Quote
John A Stuart Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 It would be nice to see the sword. IZUMI NO KAMI RAI KANEMICHI ; From Fujishiro; KANEMICHI RAI YONDAI [KYÔHÔ 1716 YAMASHIRO] SHINTÔ CHÛJÔSAKU He was beckoned to Edo as a stand-in for Iga no Kami in Kyôhô Shichinen (1722), favored with prosperity as a swordsmith, and there are gassaku with the sandai Hisamichi. Jacques Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 Hi, Is it possible to have better pictures of the mei (each side) ? Thanks. Quote
mercierarmory Posted March 18, 2012 Author Report Posted March 18, 2012 Thank you for the help everyone! I have passed this information on to him and as you can imagine, he is quite pleased. When I speak to him again, I will ask for better pictures. Mike Quote
