Assistance with ancestral blade in Army mountings

I am helping another friend with a translation of his sword. This friend is across the pond in the UK so I can't see the sword in person. The pictures are pretty clear and it is in WWII Army mountings but looks like an ancestral blade. It is really intriguing and I am very curious of its translation.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There were several generations in this line, and there are fakes as well.

The omote is signed Izumi no Kami Rai Kinmichi 和泉守来金道, and Chris already gave you the mei on the ura. If it's genuine, it's what's known as gasaku, which means it's a joint work by the two smiths.

Yes, would be a gassaku if genuine....If you are able to post additional photos of each side of the blade, it would be helpful.

He was beckoned to Edo as a stand-in for Iga no Kami in Kyôhô Shichinen (1722), favored with prosperity as a swordsmith, and there are gassaku with the sandai Hisamichi.
