I find myself in the unfortunate position that i may have to sell the Keith Nobuhira Austin tanto that i have .there is alot of information on the board about the blade and its history .
This is a very unusual blade and has a very interesting history and is quite unique ,so i am a little unsure as to what price to set it at( i am thinking around $7,000-$9000 ) but i may put it up for auction as i need as much as i can get for it. but i would be happier if it went to someone who will appeciate the impotance and quality of this work. Please let me know if anybody is interested in it and comments on price would be appeciated.

best
Anthony

Stephen and Anthony,

This is the tanto I briefly had here and the chance to study? If things were better here in Florida for us, I would want to pick it up. I don't think you want tsuba in trade, and that there must be a better conservator for it than me.

It is an important link in american-nihonto history and the tanto is quite the story in workmanship as sort of a "look what I can do" skill to it as Mr. Austin found his style. I greatly hope that this tanto can be appropriately placed. Stephen really helped some of us follow the story as it was found and identified. Here is a link to the original article:

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1317&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=keith+austin+nobuhira

I have no idea how to price such a unique item and I am far from nationalistic, but would like to see it back in USA with a respectful conservator if at all possible.

As it was in my care for a few days, took it to shinsa and it passed quite well, (Chris you seen this), it would be very dear for me to keep this until its time to go to the Nobuhira collection in calie. Come Lotto gods or VA take a big blank on me.......er bless me!!!

Yes, I recall I had a brief look at it...very interesting blade....

I, like many, was shocked at his untimely death. He was someone I had long planned on talking with but never got around to it-something I deeply regret...
