  11. Huge Congratulations to all who attended and submitted swords and kodogu for shinsa. I have heard nothing but good things about the show and shinsa.   12. Larry's Swords and fittings for sale list December 2015 1. Shinto period Wakizashi with unusual grooves. Mounted in Shira saya. 21 inch cutting edge, midare hamon in nioi, itame hada, 2 large grooves per side. The top groove is wide and extends about 1/3 the length of the blade, the second (bottom) groove is not much smaller in width than the top groove and goes halfway down the length of the sword. One hole in the nakago. Plain copper habaki. Polish is about 50% Signed Yamashiro Kuni Ju Fujiwara Norisada (Made by Nori Sada from Yamashiro province from the Fujiwara clan) This NoriSada was working in 1673. Overall condition is very good plus. $1350.00 2. Koto period Te Yari – Hand Spear: Te Yari is signed and mounted. It has a 9 inch nakago and 5.5 inch head. No flaws and in 90+% old polish. Midare hamon in nioi. Signed Suke Fusa and he was working in 1573. Of the ones listed he is the only one which is listed as using a 2 kanji signature. 15 pts in Hawley. This piece is mounted in the appropriate mountings and has the saya for the Yari. Overall condition is excellent plus. $1250.00 3. Consignment - Long Shin Shinto period katana: 31 7/8 inch CE gunome choji midare hamon in nioi. Signed: Owari Ju Katayama Minamoto Katsu Shige Saku Dated: Keio Moto Nen - First year of Keio - 1865. Ko itame hada. Only has saya 70% polish . $8550. This is a really cool sword. 4. Samurai mounted Shin Shinto Period Tanto: 8 1/2 inch cutting edge, Unsigned. Gunome Saka Choji hamon in nioi with some sunagashi in the tops of the choji, ko itame to muji hada, no flaws of any type, long turnback, 80% polish. Copper habaki and seppa, Iron tsuba with applied silver vine work to the rim. Fuchi is darkened copper with applied gold leaves and branches, kashira is gold washed with leaves and vine motif. wrap is very dark blue with matching copper menuki of a feather, white same is in great shape. Saya is black lacquer with finely ground abalone shell added, there are some chips in the lacquer. Horn koiguchi and iron kojiri with applied gold leaves. Comes with Kozuka which is unsigned, gold washed back and silver plated front with a very intricately done dragon in waves design, ko katana is signed. Overall condition is low excellent. $1450.00 5. Shinto Period Boys Day Sword: 17 1/2 inch CE, Unsigned ubu nakago, Masame hada with one long opening in the hada, suguha midare hamon in nioi, short turnback, 70% polish. Blade has the shape of a tachi but made in miniature. Silver foil habaki with rain pattern, 2 shakudo and 2 gold foil seppa, 4 lobbed shakudo tachi style tsuba with 4 heart cut outs tsuba is nanako patterned on both sides. Fuchi and kashira are solid silver and plain. Menuki are matched copper running horses, black wrap. Saya is painted red and black. Saya has handachi type fittings also in plain silver, missing kojiri and has a few small chips out of lacquer. No kozuka. Overall condition is low excellent. $1050.00 6. Samurai Mounted Kuni Suke wakizashi. 16 1/8 CE Signed: Kawachi no kami Kuni Suke, no date. Working in the Shinto period circa 1624. Tight ko itame to muji hada. The hamon is Fist shaped choji done in fine tight ko nie. No flaws. 75% polish no pitting and all lines are straight and true. Black lacquered saya, 2 5/8 x 2 1/4 oval iron tsuba with gold and copper floral design around 1/3 of circumference. Excellent quality shakudo fuchi with 2 cranes in applied silver surrounded by applied gold marsh grass, matching shakudo kashira has a silver crane on a stump with applied gold branches. (the cranes have copper and brass beaks with applied gold eyes) Good quality large knob same, missing menuki and ito. High quality copper habaki. Black lacquered saya. Overall condition is Low Excellent. $3900.00 7. Koto period (pre 1530) Wakizashi. 17 3/8 inch cutting edge. Unsigned - (cut down katana) Nakago has 2 holes in it. Itame hada with some loose jigane resulting in some small wari. Wide Suguha hamon in ko Nie with some ji nie. 85% polish, copper habaki, mounted in old shira saya. $625.00 8. Shinto period (circa 1660) Wakizashi. 13 5/8 inch cutting edge. Unsigned - (Cut down katana) 1 hole in nakago, Midare hamon in nioi, 2 piece copper and silver foil habaki, signed iron sukashi tsuba of a dragon in the clouds motif. Shakudo fuchi with cloud design. Kashira is Mid war Army. Instead of same the tsuka is wrapped with black cloth like the late war Navy Kai Gunto. No menuki or wrap. Leather combat cover with single hanger. 50% polish overall condition is very good. May be a tank or aircraft crew sword. 475.00 9. Unsigned Showa period Katana in Samurai mounts: 24 7/8 inch cutting edge, wide gunome midare hamon in thick nioi. Brass habaki, Iron 4 lobbed tsuba. Fuchi is copper (or shakudo which has been polished) in wave motif. kashira is also in wave motif but is made of iron. Menuki are matched Army style gold washed cherry blossoms. Dark blue/green ito. Saya is Salmon red in color. Overall condition is very good plus. $650.00 Fittings 1. Earliest Edo period iron Katchu sai tsuba.3 1/8 inch diameter tsuba, NTHK papered. Showa period katana in Samurai mounts. 26 1/2 inch cutting edge, Special order gunome suguha hamon in nioi (see pictures to understand the difficulty in describing this hamon.) Tight ko itame to muji hada, Signed: Seki Suke Mitsu Nobu Mitsu Saku. (Made by Suke Mitsu Nobu Mitsu from Seki) 2 holes in the nakago. Showa stamp (this stamp was used prior to 1942) 3 inch x 2 7/8 inch iron sukashi tsuba (tsukashi means pierced) Plain copper fuchi and horn kashira. Menuki are bronze and look to be stirrups? Black ito (wrap) Black lacquered saya. Habaki is shakudo. Polish is 85 - 90% Overall condition is low excellent. $1500.00 2. Shinto period Wakizashi with unusual grooves. Mounted in Shira saya. 21 inch cutting edge, midare hamon in nioi, itame hada, 2 large grooves per side. The top groove is wide and extends about 1/3 the length of the blade, the second (bottom) groove is not much smaller in width than the top groove and goes halfway down the length of the sword. One hole in the nakago. Plain copper habaki. Polish is about 50% Signed Yamashiro Kuni Ju Fujiwara Nori sada (Made by Nori Sada from Yamashiro province and from the Fujiwara clan) This Nori Sada was working in 1673. Signed Suke Fusa and he was working in 1573. Of the ones listed he is the only one which is listed as using a 2 kanji signature. 15 pts in hawley. Only has saya, 70% polish . $8550.This is a really cool sword. 6. Shin Gunto in samurai saya: 25 1/2 inch cutting edge. Narrow Suguha hamon in nioi. Muji hada. Very faint seki stamp. Signed: Osa Fune Kane Taka. Standard mid war shin gunto tsuka and tsuba and seppa. Brass habaki. Dark brown Samurai saya with a long brass with engraved floral motif drag. (kojiri) Blade is stained but not pitted. About 50% polish. $400.00. 7. Shinsakuto Tanto in Samurai Mounts: 5 7/8 in CE. Moroha zukuri blade. Gunome midare hamon in nioi, ko itame to muji hada. Horimono of flaming pearl on one side and two short thin grooves on the other. Signed: Motoshige. Oguri Motoshige isfamous for his horimono and won the horimono competition at the annual Shinsakuto Exhibition in Tokyo. The tanto is in foundation polish. Silver foil habaki, Matching Brass fushi/kashira with birds on branches in copper and gold and silver. Matched shakudo and gold floral and branch menuki. Black ito (wrap), Black Lacquered wood saya. An excellent piece. $ $850.00 8. Samurai mounted Shinto Period Tanto: 11 9/16 in. CE, Shinogi zukuri shape. Gunome choji hamon in nioi. Ko itame to muji hada. No flaws. Signed: Bizen Kuni Osafune Ju Suke Sada Saku. Dated: Kyoho 10, 8th month. August of 1725. Saya has leaves painted on a surface that is Black with green glitter finish. A small figure which looks like it is playing a flute while walking is attached to the saya, Tsuba appears to be shibuichi with a bird on a branch in copper with gold highlights. Tsuba is 1 1/2 x 5/8 in. Fuchi is copper or shakudo nanako with parts of what appears to be Samurai clothing accessories in Copper, Gold and Silver. Kashira is copper of shakudo with a Dragon in clouds motif. Dragon has gold eyes. Menuki are large (2 inch) gold washed dragons. Copper habaki. Black Ito. 50% polish. Overall condition is very good. $1350.00 9. Fantastic Shin Gunto mounted Yokoyama Suke Naga katana: 26 3/8 in CE, graceful tachi shape. Choji midare hamon in nioi, perfect ko itame to muji hada. No flaws. Signed: Yokoyama Kaga no Suke Fujiwara Suke Naga. Dated in August of 1838. Suke Naga was one of the premier smiths of the Shin Shinto times. Mounted in deluxe shin gunto mounts with the best leather combat cover I have ever seen. (after 40 years of collecting it takes a lot for me to say that) Polish is 98% Overall condition is Excellent +. NTHK npo papers. Recieved 78 points at Shinsa. $15,500. 10. Late 1944 Shin Gunto mounted Showato: 26 1/8 inch CE, Brass habaki, light brown steel saya, wrong tsuba but is early showa period shin gunto brass cut out tsuba, Best style late 1944 tsuka (the kind found usually only on Gendaito) signed: Yoshi Kuni and dated in February of 1945. One small seki stamp. Blade is buffed but can still see suguha hamon. $550.00 11. Early Shinto Period circa 1600 Boys Day Sword: 17 1/2 inch CE, Midare hamon in nioi with some nie, Masame Itame mix, unsigned, silver foil habaki with rain pattern, 2 seppa are gold foil and 2 are shakudo, good quality 2 3/8 x 2 1/8 inch shakudo nanako tachi style tsuba with 4 heart cut outs, Fuchi/kashira are silver, Dark green ito and no menuki. The tachi style saya is red and black lacquered with silver fittings. Condition of polish is 60%, overall condition is very good plus. This is a first class example of a Boys Day Sword. $1050.00 Fittings 1. Earliest Edo period Iron 3 1/8 inch diameter tsuba, NTHK papered. Both pieces are of high quality shakudo, The Fuchi has first quality nanako background and figures reading a scroll. The detail is incredible down to the eyes and hair and pattern on their clothes. Tree branches finish out the design. The kashira is shakudo and the background is smooth with extremely detailed figures reading a scroll. Condition is excellent plus. $705.00 3. Shinto period iron Jakushi tsuba. 3 1/8 b y 2 3/4 inch. NBTHK Green paper. 2 open hitsu-ana. Textured iron plate with raised mountain and village scenes highlighted in gold and shakudo. There are Four small shakudo plates attached to one side with grass and flowers applied in gold. The other side has 5 of these shakudo plates. 3 depict plants, one depicts the sun setting on the sea, and the last depicts a pagoda.
