Big exhibition in Paris

Recommended Posts

Jean, Thank you for the first glimpse of the catalogue. I hope the exhibition goes well. I was involved in writing a section on horse equipment for the catalogue - an interesting exercise since nobody seems to have written much on the subject in English. Whether I will be able to make the trip to Paris I do not know at this stage.

Ian, If you can make it to Paris, just tell me, you'll be entitled for a free meal and beverage.

If you want me to take a catalog, just let me know.

I have reached an agreement with my HR manager and shall stop working on the 31st of December.

I'll be free in January but can take an extra day before year end.

Hello Everybody,

I think there is a misunderstanding about this announcement. A major exhibition at the Musée du Quai Branly will be held from 8th November until January, but the first lines of the text (above) relate to a parallel exhibition at the Espace 4 gallery in Paris, which will present 40 rare objects from 4 until November 26.

The announcement was part of the last newsletter of the gallery, but the poster is the one of the Museum's exhibition.

I'll post a new topic about the exhibition of the gallery.

Regards,

Kwairyo

Thierry, I am so grateful for your efforts in taking all those pictures. Thank you. I was annoyed I could not attend the opening. I noted a good number of old friends and favourites in the exhibition -particularly the famous tengu armour, formally in Arashiyama Museum in Kyoto. I note it has been given a new set of feathers in its sashimono - the old ones were very bedraggled.

FWIW: a little tip for the European collectors:

I don't know if this applies to all your home countries, but if you use amazon.de (Germany) they usually have free shipping.

I've used it on many occasions and especially if the books are quite heavy (as is in this case) it can save you a lot of money. You can easily order the English version on the German site and you can use your .co.uk or .com Amazon login just as easy on the German Amazon.

I would like to thank Thierry Bernard for giving me permission to upload his images of the samurai armor exhibit in Paris to the Wiki commons image repository. I have started a category on Wiki commons for all the images from the exhibit that have been properly licensed including Thierry's and I am in the process of transferring Thierry's images there. There are of course a lot of images on the internet but most are not licensed for legal use by the public with the exception of Wiki commons. Without images such as this the only record of this exhibit will be the catalog. It is unfortunate that more people do not take advantage of this excellent resource for the permanent storage of their images of nihonto and other Japanese, samurai related items.

Here is a link to the category:Category:Photographs from the "Samurai: Armor of the Warrior" exhibit
