:D Nothing special, just a Nikon p5000 camera. The macro is superb for the price though which is why I bought it.

 

I'm a complete novice and don't know whether these tiny nicks are a problem or not. If they are not, that good news, yes?

it looks like nobody mentioned it, so I will - the stamp at the end of the nakago is discussed in detail on page

65 of slough's book about this smith. It appears to indicate that it is of kobuse construction - if that helps...

But would kobuse construction exclude oil quench?

 

I don't own Slough's book, but wish I'd picked it up when I'd had the chance.

I don't believe Slough's mention oil/water quench, but regardless it's non-traditional. Whether good/bad for owner, it all depends on what they bought - gendaito or showato.

This is interesting.  This is the 4th blade on record with the "kobuse" or wrapped steel stamp, and all 4 are Kaneshige blades.
