Hallo!

I looking for information on a smith from Chikugo province that worked about 嘉永 Kaei 1848. The smith name is Kiyotsuna/tsune. I have only found referance to Kiyohide that worked about Tenpo 1830. Could it be one of his students. If someone with access to Fujishiro og Halweys could you be so kind to look it up for me.

Thanks in advance

Not in Fujishiro. Hawley lists two possibilities:

"Chikugo Kurume ju Kiyotsuna saku" (son of Kiyohiro)

worked Chikugo 1844-1864

"Kiyotsune" (son of Kiyohide)

worked Ckikugo 1830-64

both rated 10 points (for whatever that's worth :-)

Hawley "Japanese Swordsmiths" is still very much in print, in a 2 volume soft cover print. I am told the older editions are more sought after, but the later one does fill the gap.

You can find them on eBay..there is a seller who lists them daily, at a BIN of $160 I think. They are also common on the used book market.

The Swordsmith database linked above is also a useful resource (started by Darcy) and gives similar info.

Brian

Rich S!

Thanks for the info! On sho.shin.com, in the smith list, Kiyohide is listed as the son of Kiyohiro. The mei in questioning is Kiyotsuna - maybe he is the brother of Kiyohide since Hawley list Kiyotsuna as the son if Kiyohiro.

10 points -not much to brag about - But did not Halwey list many shin -shinto and Gendai smiths with 10 point without judging their real quality.

Or so they say ?
