This menuki came with this strange wood tablet and it was with a sort of cloth wallet that had literally fallen apart.

Inside were hidden pages and pages of Japanes writing with seals on and stuff.

I will go into them later but wondered if anyone could translate these for me.

Thanks

shan

Hi Shan, looks like you got a temple/shrine good fortune talisman with your Menuki. Normally Japanese people would never open them up to see what's inside! The cover paper on the right says: O-Mamori (Protection) and the little wooden hanging plate says Narita-san on the front. See:

and watch the top picture change.

Unfortunately I cannot read the writing on the back, but there is a chance they might be Sanskrit letters. Perhaps Koichi san can help?

I am unsure but the writing on the back might mean Acala (不動明王 – Fudo Myo-O).

Gomafuda is wooden amulet to receive benefits, which has been placed over a fire and blessed with a spirit of Fudomyoo through a Goma rite. Migawari-omamori (Substitute-amulet) is a small amulet to ward off accidents and evils.
