oil quenched and water quenched

Recommended Posts

Hello To All;

I have not been on here in years so please bare with me and my edicate.

I was wondering what significant difference you could visually see between a oil quenched blade and a water quenched blade? other than no hada, nie and nio, chikie, etc.

I know I can tell the difference when polished but what are some tale-tail signs to look for when looking at a blade in somewhat poor polish? I have seen some with the bright nie line above the hamon and some that were dull and lifeless; both of which I found out were oil quenced; I am not the sharpest blade in the drawer on these period blades.

Many Thanks and Most respectfully;

Dana
