Wakizashi translation help

Hi all!

I had a friend who's grandfather brought this back from WWII (I know, so original LOL)

I am looking for help translating the kanji on the tang.

 

I have another pic of it too, but was too large to upload both.

Dear Mike.

 

Start your research around Higo no Kami Kuniyasu.  That basically means Kuniyasu with the honorary title of Lord of Higo province.  More pictures will allow others to suggest more information for you.

Higo no kami Kuniyasu was 2nd brother of 2nd Kawachi Kami Kunisuke.Kuniyasu was active during the Kanbun period and was ranked O-Wazamono for his workmanship.

He generally make Kobushi Choji midare hamon.

Your mei looks good and I've compared it to papered examples. It is pretty much bang on.

I've some doubt about this mei being shoshin,  i would like to see the nakago jiri.

OK well as I said it looked OK to me but then I may not see the subtle differences like others. 

I perhaps should keep my mouth shut in future.

however the key here is not only the mei but also the placement of the mekugi ana.

This Smith didn't randomly bang out a hole,he meticulously placed it in the exact same place on almost all his nakago.
