I think it is a kakihan - or a kao - rather than a - well - "readable" signature.

John, any thoughts as to why the kanji would be flipped like that? I have a seppa with a mirrored kanji on it and would love to find out the purpose of the practice.

I think that only the picture is flipped for some reason.

Look at the direction of the sickle.

Yes indeed the picture on the left is flipped.
