Bizen Hidekage katana in shirasaya with beautiful workmanship

With only a few exceptions, the majority of swords I have listed here have been consignments for friends. The exceptions were a couple of very good Nanbokucho blades (Ko-Mihara and Ko-Uda Kunifusa) and a very excellent shodai Ishido Korekazu. This sword I am listing now is one that I planned to put through NBTHK shinsa, but with other expenses that was deferred. The sword presently has NTHK kanteisho to Bizen Hidekage and I have attached the worksheet here (75pts). It is one that I feel to be something earlier, both from the quality of the work and the apparent age of the nakago. The hamon is absolutely filled with beautiful hataraki that descends to the edge and has a Shizu feel. The jihada is a very beautiful, large patterned itame with chikei everywhere. The length is 2 shaku 2 sun 3 bu (67.6cm). It appears from a kitae-ware hidden under the habaki that it was shortened (in part) to its current length for that reason. The sword is in excellent polish, with an old gold foil habaki (one small tear) and a new shirasaya from John Tirado. There is also a very nice saya, which was made with the intent or assembling a high-quality Higo koshirae. I will provide photos of both the new shirasaya and the lacquer saya separately. Any questions, please email raymondsinger@gmail.com.

Best regards,

Ray

Hello Ray.

First, VERY nice blade for a spectacular price.

Second, I had a question about the Shinogi ji. In regards to the "snake skin" looking pattern, is it a reflection from the camera? Or part of the hada pattern? I don't think it detracts or anything, I'm only a bit curious

Either way, if I had the cash I'd buy it right now! There is so much action going on in this healthy blade!

Thanks!
