Nihonto activities in New York

Recommended Posts

Dear fellow member, I just got myself a last minute, half work related trip to New York and decided to spend a couple more days to visit. Any recommendations for any Nihonto related book stores, museums, antique shops or even flea market?

Ray here already very kindly pointed me to a couple museums, big thanks, Ray.

The Met has some nice blades on display.

On Manhattan, as well, there is the Manhattan Arts and Antiques Center with the Akasaka Collection. Beautiful tosugu and swords, as well as armor and other old Japanese art. On the first floor, if he still is there, is an excellent speaking Japanese expat who sells woodblocks and other swords of varying quality. But has very good prices!

The next New York Token Kai meeting will be October 27.

If Ray pointed you towards the major museums that’s a great start.

I really want to see if I can make that meeting, but that say is my best friends birthday, as well as my parents Anniversary.  However, the besty does live in Manhattan....

Dear all,

I most probably will also be in NYC during the last week of February.

Could you please recall the information regarding museums?

Is there a Token Kai meeting during that period?

Thanks

Yvan

Given the limited time frame, and the fact that will land on Feb.25th, missing the Token Kai meeting, I have noted:

- Met 1000 Fifth Ave

- Newark Museum, Newark NJ

- Cooper-Hewitt Museum, Manhattan NY

- Manhattan Arts and Antiques Center (Akasaka Collection) unless it was a temporary exhibition

and the couple of shops or galleries that were mentioned

Thank you and Best regards

Yvan
