Handachi Style Wakizashi

Death-Ace

Recommended Posts

While the blade may not be the best, the mountings are what brings this package together.

The wakizashi appears to be a late koto or early Shinto mumei wakizashi. Unfortunately, it does have a number of delaminations and some fukure, but does have some interesting activities. The hada is itame and the hamon is a midare with ashi and sunagashi. The boshi is ko-maru with some hakikake. Also noted is muneyaki.

The tosugu are the best things about this package. Although the fine woodlike urushi is chipped and the high quality tsuka missing ito and some same, the fittings remain in the excellent shape. The kurikata, koiguchi, kojiri, and semegane have Higo influence as handachi fittings, the fuchi/kashira Mino, Menuki Goto, and tsuba possibly Soten? The theme appears to be that of warriors past, handachi style saya, with the menuki a Yumi/quiver theme, and the tsuba has a scene of a past battle. Tosugu are shakudo and gold inlayed copper The habaki is a nice gold foiled copper.

All in all, a small package for those wishing for a cheap study piece but with a koshirae that is worthy of restoration, lessen one wishes to use the toaugu for display or a project.

Good piece at $1050 USD including shipping in the US (overseas shipping varies).

Hey guys!

Thank you to Luis (NihontoCollector) for a bit more info on the tsuba! It is actually a Kagamishi made (mirror maker) tsuba! The menuki, I no longer think is Goto, and I would like to retract as such. I am also lowering the peice on this set:

900 obo! Free shipping within the US, varies internationally.
