It is beautiful - from start to finish.

 

Silly Question: What is the red colored writing near the signature?

 

I can't imagine that's original given the age, yet to color that portion of the sword seems sacrilege...

That's an attribution.  The bottom half of the true signature, which has the actual name, has been cut off during shortening.  Read Darcy's writeup.  I always learn a lot from his very astute and academic treatments of the maker in question.
