Sayagaki translation

Recommended Posts

Hello,

i just recently purchased this Shirasaya without the according sword.

I could use some help with the translation of the Sayagaki.

The first 4 Kanji could be 月山貞ー. This should be the name Gassan Sadakazu.

Was he the Swordsmith?

But what does the rest mean? ( the first Kanji of the rest could be 左)

Some of the kanji are actually pretty hard to read.

Any information about the sword it belonged to are much appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

月山貞一 = Gassan Sadakazu (as you guessed)

在銘貮尺貮寸参分    = Zaimei 2 shaku, 2 sun, 3 bu   (zaimei = with mei), the rest are measurements

Supposedly this would have contained a Gassan Sadakazu sword, but it is kind of like looking at an empty picture frame upon which someone has written "Rembrandt". There is not way of knowing the authenticity of the item it once held.
