Choji Oil In US?

Hmmm, it would be helpful if the "The Institute of Asian Arts" tells its customers what's actually in the oil, not how much is in the bottle :doubt: - if it's indeed pure chōji oil, it has to be heavily diluted with camellia oil.

I think this DIY approach would do the trick, George:

Seconded, same stuff I use.

I use this one, Kurobara  tsubaki oil, ever since I saw that it was what Aoi Art used in their maintenance video for Nihonto. https://www.amazon.com/KUROBARA-Tsubaki-Japanese-Maintenance-Camellia/dp/B001TPFVHC

Though I buy it via https://www.fine-tools.com/pflege.html because Amazon won't ship it to the UK.

You can see it in use here... http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/21327-care-and-cleaning-by-tsuruta-san/

That‘s the same I linked to, just in a spray bottle (which I personall don’t like, too messy for swords). And it’s available in the UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Camellia-Oil/dp/B015L1FI4A/ref=sr_1_21?crid=2NT1TPDCJVUUF&keywords=camellia+oil&qid=1556276104&s=gateway&sprefix=camellia+%2Caps%2C348&sr=8-21

I use the spray bottle, but spray the oil onto the tissue I use to wipe the blade.

Do any of our members/dealers sell good Japanese choji oil in the US? I've looked through all the commercial links and can't find anyone in the US who has it listed....

I'm in CA and use eBay. I can find every kind of choji oil from Japan I want

This is what I prefer to use. The small bottle has lasted me over a year now. I keep a micro fiber cloth soaked in an airtight container for multiple use

That’s the one I’ve been using for years and am happy with it.

Besides, I love the smell and it soothes toothaches!

i haven't read the entire thread....that last line caught my eye. if you use clove oil made for toothaches youll likely cause your blade to turn colors....you like purple steel JP???

this oil debate on NMB is one of the oldest.

heres what i use

No, I use Choji oil for my swords.

That last line was added because last week I suffered from a toothache and I had nothing on hand to soothe it. I know clove is used to soothe them. So I thought, what the heck, and put a drop of Choji oil on my finger and rubbed my gum where it ached. Probably dangerous and not very healthy but it worked like a charm. :)

I just ordered some. Does it have the clove odor of choji oil?

Neither dangerous nor unhealthy (unless you swallow it in large quantities), but since sword oil contains less than 5% clove oil, it might have been kind of a placebo effect ????

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one, unless your post is really relevant and adds to the topic..
