Yes , Kanemasa.

Full mei is NOSHU SEKI JU NIN KURIKI KANEMASA SAKU (something). This means Kuriki Kanemasa, a resident person of Seki in Noshu peovince, made (?). The kanji for Seki is a strange abbreviation seen only rarely.

Looking at Jinsoo Kim's info list it says his name is Kuramoto, but what is written on your tang is definitely Kuraki.

Kuramoto (Kuraki) Masaichi was made Seki gunto swordsmith on Oct. 20 1939.

Hope this helps,

First of all, thank you George. It helps!

I'm looking at Dr. Jinsoo Kims's list but I can't find Kuramoto (Kuraki) Masaichi.

Kurimonto Shoichi (Gifu)

I have found the following " Seki Kanemasa" smiths listed in the group of CHUGE SAKU:

Kuriyama Kanemasa

Kuriki Kanemasa

Yes, I made a couple of typos there Peter.

Should have typed KURIKI KANEMASA (not KURAKI).

His personal name can also be said as Masakazu and Shoichi.

I had another look at Jinsoo Kim's Seki Kaji list in the links above and "KANEMASA....Kuriki Shoichi/Masakzu" IS there.

Noting him also in the Chuge list shows that he made it into the lower level of Gendai smiths AND the older published list (from Japanese Sword Index?) shows Kuriki Kanemasa as a RJT, but known from literary sources, not from "in hand".

You are right John, I have seen "ki" used as moto also.

I will leave it to the more knowledgeable to decide on Kuriki / Kurimoto.

Hope this helps,

sorry for typos (getting old and dribbly).
