Copper Handle Nco

Hi Guys!

In my opinion, its not even a copper handle. The ito pattern is wrong.

At best it is a heavily painted aluminium handle, and i would venture to say that it may also be of Chinese origin as are the scabbard and blade.

There are a lot of NCO parts available recently, and i believe these shonky sellers are clearing their stocks out.

This particular seller has been reported to be selling overpriced fakes as originals, particularly flags. There is a thread about him over on the WAF forum.

ALL his stuff is over priced, fishing for fools.... so beware.

When i ousted Showa22, i noticed some trades and believe he has had dealings with him.

.wow ..the samurai monkey doesn't seem like a pleasant dude!... or dudette.

Steve/all -  as a follow-on to this theme, is the attached also one of those high-end copies out of Poland?   ... or a put together/paint job?
The fuchi bothers me.

Oh yes, well done Stegal. 6AM eyes missed the fact that the ito is not even correct. I assumed a put-together, but it's not even that. I reported the item too. I'm sick of these fraudulent swords taking advantage of new collectors. It's disgusting and it will destroy this hobby.

Hi Dan,

It's really difficult to tell, but I'd say yes. The grease on the blade is overly convenient. Who leaves it on to sell a sword? You can also see the pitting of the handle from bad casting, just like one I posted. Can't see much of the fuchi, but the stamps are identical and it appears painted. The kissaki is identical to the repro. There is insufficient wear to the scabbard and handle and they're the wrong colour.

The Polish swords are quite excellent. All these things aren't proof of a reproduction. There's an explanation for each. But together, I'd be confident in saying I'd not buy it.

Stegal's posts have me thinking about something; In reference to the minefield that is EBAY and "bad items," ... I think there are two types of folks on the dark side;

1.  Those who sell out of ignorance.  Yes, they may be out to just make $$$, but they are generally pickers, pawn brokers, etc... who probably don't know what they have, or make assumptions in their listing (throwing around the term "Rare" is my favorite).    Sometimes one can send an email to these folks and their integrity kicks in.   I had one seller actually post my comment (for all to see)  when I questioned the legitimacy of his item as listed ! (it wasn't a sword, but a uniform item) ..  He admitted his possible error and apologized!

2.  Those who sell out of nefarious greed.   They know what they have and they are openly into deception in order to achieve $$$.  They are not open to criticism.

I am not new to ebay,  and I am a LONG time militaria collector, but I am new to swords and so with all the knowledge here I feel like a toddler on this forum at times,  always learning  - but I am tremendously grateful I found you guys and this site.

So my QUESTION:  How do we know who to avoid on a site such as the Ebay?  I know through closely following elements of this site that there are issues with two (2) regular sword sellers on the bay (listed in this thread).   For one of those sellers, his stuff looks ridiculous and I am smart enough (on my own) to avoid.  The other seller seems to have a mix/match of good and less-than-good stuff, and a novice buyer would be none the wiser.

I don't want to break any rules .... I don't know if there are other openly deceptive sellers on the ebay, and I know the purpose of this forum is NOT to openly disparage or be unfairly critical of others.    I try to go back and study old threads on this site, but there is A LOT of stuff posted.   If there is an old thread that I should read on this topic,  I'd be thankful if someone can point me on that path!

Cheers, Dan

There's far more than the two in question, unfortunately. I strongly suspect a few more of shill bidding and I know for a fact that there's another seller who seems to always have franken 95s. I've bought 4 swords from them, all looking pretty good and reasonable priced. I returned 3,as upon receipt there were issues that were not listed, or I found evidence of put-together. So it's hard to make recommendations. I've dealt with a few people who I go back to, great service and honest. One, Matt, is a member here.

Two good ebay sellers I can recommend are:

https://www.ebay.com.au/usr/pcay

https://www.ebay.com.au/usr/salmon127

Have bought from both of them and regularly check their listings. Have not seen anything that has distressed me so far.

Yep, Pierre I've dealt with for over a decade and your second seller is Matt, who I mentioned above.

Smallsword are the seller I've returned sword to. Now, while the swords have been bad, I have to say there was never any issue with the returns. Were good, but disappointing transactions.

That gunto that Dan posted is definitely spurious.. look how shiny the paint is on the tsuka! And how brushed that grease looks. Its pretty obvious someone is trying to make it look "arsenal fresh". I've owned arsenal-released weapons and that is the exact look they're trying to give off. Cosmolene is a real pain in the butt to clean off a mosin, I'll tell you that! But grease does NOT look brushed on like that on a gunto. The seller doesn't appear to be in the business of selling fakes, it looks like they're either trying to sell what they think is real or trying to pass the buck as it were.

Good to hear, I check his listings often as well, very much appears he is a Pawnbroker with a good inventory of swords and constant new ones popping up out of the woodwork.

Some pics for reference.

Neil, thank you; I'm following this thread to learn more as a beginning collector of common pitfalls, regarding ebay especially. Are the photos you posted reference of a good NCO sword, or a sword sold from one of the sellers mentioned here, etc?
