Hi,

I’m offering two swords for sale.

1. Soshu style tanto by Shitahara Masamune (nijimei 正宗 Masamune)

Period: Taiei (1521-1528)

Nagasa: 31.3cm

Saki-haba: 2.0cm

Moto-haba: 2.5cm

Sori: 0.5cm

Nakago: ubu, funa-gata with 3 mekugi-ana

Sugata: hirazukuri

Jitetsu: O-itame

Hamon: midareba

A classical Soshu blade, with a nicely shaped ubu nakago. It shows all the typical features of the Shitahara school.

Regarding its condition, the blade had many polishes and is rather thin, but healthy. The polish is in an ok state, with some patches of residual rust, but no deep pitting.

It comes in an old shirasaya.

Asking Price: EUR750

A signed Shitahara would typically go for a fair bit more, but due to a less perfect state, I’m selling it with a discount.

2. Mumei Nagamaki Naoshi

Nagasa: 38.5cm (15.25'')

Saki-haba: 25mm

Moto-haba: 31mm

Sori: 11mm

Sugata: shobu-zukuri with high shinogi

Nakago: one mekugi ana, kurijiri. Yasurime is kiri.

Jihada: dense running masame

Hamon: wide gunome-midare

The blade is in an old polish with an old shirasaya in silk bag (ivory colour). Habaki is a 2-part one in copper.

I think it’s a Mino school, late Muromachi, potentially Kanetsugu. The hamon has 2 distinct oval shapes at the monouchi which may point you in the right direction.

The blade has some lamination issues. One is clearly visible on the pictures, close to the shinogi line. Another one is a blister, close to the hamon. I believe it can be rectified if submitted for a fresh polish.

It’s a very sturdy, heavy blade. It has a nice feel in hands.

Asking Price: EUR400

Payment: wire transfer or PayPal (the buyer pays the fees), shipping extra.

The swords are located in Ireland. I would prefer a buyer from the UK, Ireland or continental Europe, because shipping swords out of Ireland to any other destinations can be quite an experience.

Regards,

Stan
