Translation Help

Thank you, Ray. Rai would be an unusual name prefix. To explore for a moment--even though the second character looks very clearly to be 'mitsu'--could the second character be also a noun instead of mitsu? ...to form a named sword? Just a thought.

Or perhaps, if truly 'Raimitsu', an unlisted smith? Or, even though I agree with Ray that the character appears to be rai, if one considers the possibility of poor handwriting, is this character close to any other possibilities?

Thank you again, Ray. Your help is always apppreciated!

Yes, I can.  I decided to put this sword up at auction on eBay.  Here is the link:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/113331988601

The sword is an o-tanto.  As mentioned, this sword was named by its maker 'Raikou'--or 'Lightning'.  So interesting!  As all of us know, yes there are named swords out there--but as uncommon as they are, we need to pay attention when we see one.

The fuchi/kashira are matching shakudo, and gold.  The tsuba has a paulownia flower motif.
