Two Tsubas To Identify

Remska

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

My main theme being the shin gunto, I'm starting to focus more and more on the earlier swords.
So I need your help to help me identify these two tsubas.
I am offered them in exchange but I would like to have your opinion on it before concluding.

The first is, I believe, signed Tadayoshi. Hizen Tadayoshi who was a great blacksmith from the early 1600s of Umetada Myoju school. Let me know if I'm wrong.

The second, I do not really know, can be Edo period?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Remska.,

I agree with Geraint and StevenK that there is little to learn from these two tsuba, do please try this resource instead:

You will learn a thousand times more by studying the contents in the link below than wasting any more time on the two that you have shown.

There are some good examples here, most schools are represented in this fine old collection which is housed at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford.

Enjoy....... :)

We all have to start from somewhere, but where we ultimately choose to go is sometimes a matter of chance happen stance......................... Here is your chance my friend:
